The study on that was about one measure of immunity (neutralizing antibodies- and that’s EXPECTED and normal to wane), and the 10 weeks was Pfizer after AstraZeneca specifically as I recall. Don’t take those headlines at face value by any measure. It’s way more nuanced. I’m mad how alarmist the media is being about that, and/or what poor science writing they’re doing.
I was boostered in August so I’m just la-di-daing my ass at home why this thing seems to take over the world.
I’ve heard anecdotal reports of people getting negative rapid tests for omicron until they swab their throat instead. No idea how accurate it is, but if I had symptoms, a known exposure, and a negative rapid test, I’d probably try my throat. For science.
Do you know what the control line is actually controlling for on the rapid tests? I couldn’t find it from a quick google and I’m not (yet) so curious that I’d burn a rapid test on an empty swab to see if it’s a protein control or just a reagent control.
I think it’s just a reagent control? I also had to google and found this quote (source):
Mouse monoclonal anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody is coated on the test line region and mouse
monoclonal anti-Chicken IgY antibody is coated on the control line region…The control line is used for procedural control, and should always appear if the test procedure is performed properly and the test reagents of the control line are working.
It’s not for a test brand I’ve personally used but I imagine they all have similar designs.
My cousin who is immunosuppressed and very cautious tested positive for Covid. Her father died from Covid complications in 2020, and I’m just feeling awful for her.
Good news is thus far her symptoms are mild.
Come on Moderna baby get it get it.
Holy shit!!! Yeah!!!
Ugggh, I know it was outdoors but I am still completely grossed out by the mostly unmasked body to body crowd pix from the NYE fireworks downtown. And I don’t even want to think about what the el looked like afterward.
At some point it doesn’t matter that you’re outdoors. Which is why I decided not to go to Disneyland (free lodging next door and hang outs with my best college bud) in March. I think I’d pretty much be guaranteed to get COVID.
Yes, I think so too if you are jam packed together in a yelling crowd.
Where is this chart from?
I’m sorry, I don’t remember where I found it. I was randomly reading news articles last night. If I come across it again, I will post.
Crossing all crossable body parts
Unsurprisingly, there were many reported COVID cases at work during my 1.5 weeks out. Including the shuttle driver this time. They also only test you if you’re a) in the office and b) unvaxxed, so…artificially low numbers. Sigh
Cool, thanks! I’m just wondering about what the testing conditions were
I’m sure that’s a model, not real world testing.
Model details then-- sorry, still waking up
