It’s crazy to me that we are still doing worse than last summer. When people cared that this was happening.
Also, apparently my state has told the federal government to ship drastically fewer vaccines, because people don’t want them. I mean, it’s good they aren’t wasting them, and they will go somewhere else instead, but UGH.
We’re still vaccinating at a rate of 0.5% per day (ish) and the max we ever achieved was around 1% per day (ish) so there is still some forward momentum here, but officials are anticipating approaching the point of hitting the wall of “easy vaccinations” within the next few weeks (53% of the population currently has had at least 1 dose), and they are starting to think about changing the way the clinics are working. In addition to still sending small mobile clinics (like vans) directly to neighborhoods (which has already been happening) and setting up clinic with trusted neighborhood partners like churches (which has already also been happening), yesterday this was said at the daily news conference (yes, we still have daily news conferences):
“My hunch is over the next couple of weeks, you’re going to find community health centers and or other providers, targeting more and more local groups as opposed to big mass [sites] you know we’re talking about the fairs maybe parades, maybe beach sites, places where people are congregating, you’ll be able to get vaccinated there,"
So this is interesting. Make it really easy for people to get the vaccine by setting up sites in places they are already going to be for recreation. I’ll bet there are plenty of people still who might be willing to get a vaccine but are “too busy” (for whatever reason - no judgement). They won’t reach everyone this way, but they will reach some people sooner, perhaps, than they otherwise might?
My Twitter lately is filled with talk of how bad things are in Ontario and I was surprised to learn that Canada doesn’t have paid sick leave. You all are supposed to be the sane ones!
At any rate, that sucks and is awful and no wonder shit is on fire if essential workers have to come in with covid symptoms or else be unable to make rent.
It depends on your job and the size of the company, but most of the affected workers have 6 days. Companies may have policies like doctor’s notes. Federally there is a covid leave after you test positive.
BUT in these work environments (amazon warehouse, meat warehouse) you get a sniffle and need to test. It’s three days until the test appointment and 36h for results. That’s 5 days off work. So if you did it once, you’re out of sick days and don’t repeat it. Or you get tested and work and lie. We want that fixed
And our provincial government is a conservative drug dealing moron. We’re glad he didn’t fuck up the whole pandemic, but around the new year the industry pressures on him overcame his earlier attempt to human.
Remember making fun of crazy old rob ford? This is his meaner brother
Whaaaaattttt? Amazing! I wish I had been able to get my vaccine at the AMNH!
Our state run sites are also open for walk-ups (as of yesterday? today?) but we don’t have anything as exciting as this. (Plus, uh, I already got mine, lol.)
There is a campaign just started in the state where if you are fully vaxed by May 19 - 31 they are running a promotion during that time to give away a free drink with proof of vaccination (with food purchase). That’s a free alcoholic beverage! (Although I am sure they would give you a soft drink or something else as well, since they are cheaper.) They just started it and restaurants are just starting to sign on, but maybe it will be huge by then!
Just got the whole household signed up for 2nd dose of Pfizer at Kaiser on Sunday! In their facility that is only 5-10 minutes from our house. Beats a 300 mile/5 hour RT drive to Yakima for sure…
Maine had an article about how the easy vaccines were slowing down and now the people who are left “will only get it if it’s convenient to them” like convenient, local healthcare is an unimaginable luxury instead of what should be a baseline.
At least the mobile vans get to start back up now that J&J is back!
Should I be worried that I had no side effects from second dose at all? I remember a rumor that such people probably already had the virus ? Am.i a super spreader???
I have equally heard that people who had Covid have stronger vaccine side effects.
At any rate, I am positive that I have not had Covid because I’ve barely stepped foot into public for the last 14 months, and I really just had a slightly sore arm from my vaccinations.
You had a medium reaction to the first right? I would just thank your immune system for being nice and get an antibody test if you’re worried and want to check.
There has (to date) been no scientifically proven relationship between vaccine response and whether one is protected (or not). If you got the vaccine you are protected as well as everyone else who got it. It probably just means that your immune system is better tuned to your body (on mounting the correct amount of response). Unlike mine, which freaks out over everything, all the time.
(The article I linked on my journal a few days ago explains it better, but that’s the gist!)
I’m with you on small/medium response the first time, no response second time. My arm is barely sore. CVS did just call me to say I left my vaccine card there (they handed over some promotional materials, it must have fallen out from the paper say some point).
