I know that Israel has seen the variant in like ~11 people and has seen Pfizer at least partially effective, but it’s a very new variant and is not present in most countries. Canada has a few cases of the variant, but unlike israel, they do not have 70% of adults vaccinated.
India is one of the largest suppliers of vaccines to the world, it’s one of the COVAX suppliers with its Covaxin and Covishield vaccines. Additionally, it manufactures other covid vaccines like J&J and Sputnik V. The effect on the supply chain of vaccines that this surge is case is having is a big deal - they have halted exports of Covishield entirely.
Sinus hive! I’ve had a headache for about 48 hours, and it’s worse when I move my head or try to focus on a screen. Yesterday I started getting a stuffy nose, and this morning my sinuses feel like they have a ton of pressure on them. I don’t think I’ve had a sinus infection before, but I have all of the symptoms.
Here’s my wrinkle: I’m scheduled for my second Moderna dose today.
Any advice from people who have been a little sick and gotten vaxed? I’m asking an actual medical doctor too, but was curious if people had experience with this. I’m at the beginning of my window to get the second dose and I do think rescheduling would be possible where I live.
Edit: Talked to the medical doctor in my life and got the OK.
In LA County it seemed to go from “Drive to Bakersfield (2 hrs 1 way) to get vaccinated” to “no appointments needed at the following 6 locations” in very little time! Glad to hear similar stories around the country
I have an appointment to get vaccinated - well the first shot! I’m very happy about that. Australia has done relatively well keeping the virus out, not so well in vaccinating the population! (tbh it’s the states that have done the heavy lifting in keeping the virus out and may very well do the same with managing the vaccination process as well.)
My appointment isn’t until early May, 2 weeks after my flu shot, but it’s in my diary. And I booked last night to fly to NZ in late May to visit my 93 year old mother, who will hopefully at least have had her first shot by then.
All of my aunts in all their respective countries are fully vaccinated! USA-based family fully vaxxed too(except the children obvs). I am selfish and terrible, but I will breathe the biggest sigh of relief once my other remaining family members get their vaccines too.
looks like Dallas County is slightly lighter than the rest of the state for hesitate, but if you switch to strongly hesitant there are more counties that are lighter.
I would not want to be in western North Dakota or all of Wyoming!
In Maryland it still seems to be hard to get an appointment. I finally got D an appointment (he’s been eligible for a few weeks) an hour away, when there are several vaccination sites much closer–they just haven’t had any appointments available.
It is a very light area on that vaccine hesitancy map, so that tracks!
Two local high schools had a vaccine event (with a follow up event in two weeks) that got almost 300 students vaccinated! That’s really impressive considering it’s still only 16-18 year olds. Other high schools are supposed to have events coming up soon.
That’s breally cool! I know I’ve seen a lot of chatter about how the kids want the vaccine, but since parental permission is needed if you are under 18, they can’t get it.
They still needed parental permission, but having done the form for my kid’s flu shot at school it’s just a scribbled signature on a piece of paper so it’d be easy for a teenager to forge if they had to.
It’s also just tremendously helpful in terms of not needing to schedule a time for the parent and child to both go to a CVS or wherever, especially if the parent doesn’t have a flexible work schedule. Heck, I have a flexible work schedule and was still ecstatic to do the flu shot at school when Kiddo was at school in person.
Mr. Meer got his second dose Monday and was still feeling the effects even yesterday afternoon, we had to tell Kiddo that Daddy needed rest because his body was still recovering from his shot and Kiddo very solemnly recommended that next time Daddy get the flu shot (since Kiddo got the Flu Mist “shot” in his nose last time, which he is now a big fan of).
Alright, for my second dose side effect hive: is improvement always linear, or did you feel worse after you felt ok? I got my second dose of Moderna yesterday morning. Last night and this morning were rough, but I’m starting to feel like a person again. Is it a bad idea to make (COVID safe) plans this afternoon?
I’d like to know for myself as well. Had dose 1 of Moderna with literally no noticeable effect, worked a long day immediately after and it was a breeze. Second dose should be easy as hell for me but I’m still nervous knowing the second will be more noticeable. Starting with a baseline of zero reaction makes me hopeful.
