Covid-19 discussion

Now a bit more than a day and a half after my second dose I’m feeling much better. Headache is gone. I’m still tired but that also could be because I had a toddler crawl in bed with me last night.

My coworker said he heard that one reason our numbers are so high right now is that a college student who knew she was positive purposely went to a bunch of big parties. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Following up on my Monday j&J shot:

Post from yesterday

For me: I had a headache for all of Wednesday, but fatigue was mostly gone, and no more fever. This morning (64 hours post-vaccine) I was 100% fine.

@aaronpk got the j&J shot yesterday at 10AM, starting feeling tired ~8 hours later, then had a fever spike for most of the night. After a morning nap, he was feeling mostly fine, with no fever, within 26 hours of the shot.

After my second Moderna shot, I had no issues past a slightly sore arm. Being 3 days out I don’t expect anything now. Lucky me!

Jesus christ, what is wrong with people?!?

University of Chicago is on shelter-in-place orders now because they had a huge spike, likely due to parties. Sigh.

My place avoided all that by never testing anyone.

Parties at the University of Chicago? Where fun goes to die? (according to my dd, anyway.)

As a UChicago alum, can confirm.

Right? I mean, it’s hardly the local party school.

Uchicago covid party was probably just a sleep-deprived study group.

What happened? A study group where the coffee thermos got mixed up?

The Tribune says it was frat parties.

U of C has fraternities? Huh.

tw sexual assault

Actually, I shouldn’t joke about that because I do have a friend who was roofied at a U of C party and sexually assaulted. :frowning: So I guess things do get out of hand sometimes, just like most other schools.

can you spoiler that please.

From what I’ve seen, sounds like frat parties.

CW mention of long-ago rumors of assault, relevant to the frat hosting the parties

Summary

I’m solidly in my mid-30s, but when I went there, there was a particular frat that threw Wednesday night parties. There were allegations of sexual assault at those parties while I was there (not sure of specifics), and rumors that the university didn’t investigate it as closely because they didn’t want to alienate rich alums from that frat. This frat is the one who threw the party that’s believed to be the superspreader event now.

In the past 5-10 years, the school has earned more of a reputation as one of the more elite institutions that is “friendliest” to conservatives, and I think has attracted members of the student body accordingly. I’m sure there is some serious overlap in the Venn diagram of skeezy frats + conservative students with lack of concern of COVID precautions + privileged students who don’t think the rules apply to them, because they never have.

Oh, shoot! I’m so sorry to hear that - I didn’t see your comment come in while I was typing mine. Really sorry that happened to your friend, and happy to take my comment down if you (or anyone else) likes.

In all fairness, my dd went to the theology school, so their idea of fun involved Hebrew translations…

5th house this year about to be listed for sale on my very small street. Previous years, I think our max was 3 or 4 over the entire year.
