Covid-19 discussion

One of my grocery stores doesn’t provide masks (actually, maybe they do if you show up without one, but no one goes without here), but does provide disposable gloves. Or did, I haven’t been in a while, not since we’ve mostly gotten away from the idea of surface transmission.

Speaking of mom masks! I gotta pm you htbf in his Christmas Cat mask.

I’m flying from VA to ME, which means two flights and three airports.

I’ve got an N95 mask I can put on just past security, and keep on without cracking until I exit the airport in Portland.

I wear prescription glasses, which of course means I touch my face 900 times an hour (approx). I need to get a pair of safety glasses, to wear over the prescription glasses. To prevent from contracting/transmitting-to-friends a somewhat deadly disease.

Only I don’t want to wear the safety goggles, because I will look silly in public. In front of people I will never see again.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the human brain!

We give away free masks at my library! Most people come with one, but we have a box at the entrance for anyone who needs one. Most people seem to take them when they leave so they’ll have an extra one. Not exactly what we intended but I’m certainly not going to stand in the way of people acquiring more masks. (It helps that we got a large donation of disposable masks from a large local manufacturing business, so can afford to be generous.)

I went to Nordstrom Rack last week, because I needed a pair of gloves that would be both thin and somewhat warm for outdoor dog stuff.

They had a beautifully laid out display at the entrance with free masks, good hand sanitizer, and signs. This was great because I doused my hands on the way in, actually TRIED ON gloves, and then doused my hands on the way out. (And I bought gloves! yay!)

Besides the usual plexiglass at cashiers (common here), they also had very large, decorative, and distracting floor markings of where to stand and arrows. They were clearly prepared for more people than when I went (a random weekday morning), because I followed the arrows and markings in a weird circle to exit instead of walking straight out with no one there. Luckily, no one was there to laugh at me.

I kind of like having more obvious stuff on my face okie safety goggles because it makes me look more like a paranoid safety conscious person who needs more personal space, and I’m all about people giving me more space.

First Covid vaccines being given in the UK today!

ETA
Also the second person vaccinated is one William Shakespeare, 81. A bold name choice from his parents!

That’s an understandable feeling, but goggles are also an excellent plan.

One of my coworkers actually wore a disposable lab coat on his flight from CO to Puerto Rico a few months ago. He said it was nice, because people stayed away from him

So the Trump administration declined to buy more of Pfizer’s vaccine when given the chance? And now it’s backordered until the summer? So we have enough doses for 15% of the country?

Could this man be more intent on destroying the country?
I don’t even think it is ineptitude. This is purposeful.

My mum is in a hospital (appointment not checked in) and has no idea wtf is going on and no one with her because apparently all guidelines, regulations and rules about patient consent and safety don’t apply during covid. I’m furious. She’s scared and furious.

I have kept in touch with my friends by phone. I don’t like zoom or FaceTime. It’s definitely less lonely that way. I will be in the first group for the vaccine because of age and asthma after HC workers, etc.

I cannot believe there are people out here who think this is not a big deal.

Relative A (high risk child at home) was just at B+C’s house doing some work because B/C (high risk for multiple reasons) need help. A is isolated, and B/C swears they are too. As he is working, relative D walks in (masked) and as he walks by, tells A, “I have Covid.” A packs and leaves immediately and berates B+C for not telling him about D’s presence and positive test.

B+C are now angry at A for overreacting. Wut?! WHY ISN’T HE AT HOME QUARANTINED??? WTF.

Well that’s a horrible situation and poor A for being kind enough to help and this is the repayment. Ugh!

Is the permanent damage percentage really that high? If it is, wow.

We can’t know yet. Technically, medically, “chronic” only kicks in beyond six months. Most of the US hasn’t even been circulating Covid that long.

This has been frustrating me right from the start. Death numbers are one thing, but it’s so damn hard to find disability & long term health effect numbers even years afterwards; this is definitely affecting that many people in the few months since this has been around.
