Check in Week 1:
Iāve started consolidating my lists.
Got our library cards fixed so we can borrow books again.
Started planning out next year - where weāre living, when renovations will happen, what our budget is for stuff, when weāre each taking parental leave.
Also started on the mess that is the linen closet. I might be able to put away clean towels as of next week.
I FINALLY found all the files I knew I had for sewing a bra (seriously, hours spent letting the computer search for various terms because I could not remember what the files were called and they were all in non-searchable pdf format), but they all rely on modifying a blocker, which I also have the pattern for, but it is a PRINTABLE pattern, in approximately 24 pieces, which I have never printed, and I have no printer.
Itās possible I might just take my most stretched-out bra and disassemble it and shorten the band width (length?) and strap length a bit and use it as a pattern.
#1 is done. As it turns out, I just had to add $24 to my last payment (they gave me a payoff quote) and the bank will take care of notifying my county. I called my home insurance and they needed no proof, just removed the mortager from my acount. So, I wait 6 weeks for the cancelled mortgage papers to be mailed to me and itās officially done.
#2 no progress. I was paying off a house, okay???
#3 no grocery trips yet, but planning to go Tuesday for minimal produce. In good shape here.
#4 Have done my PT exercises and stretches 5 days in a row. Am very pleased about this.
Doctorās appointment to get rid of bc method I donāt like
Appointment confirmed for this Thursday
Dentistās appointment for cleaning
Submitted an online request to book an appointment, office is closed so waiting to hear back
Cancel US phone service
Couldnāt figure out how to log in to my account, had a long chat with customer service and now have a phone number to call account services. Iāll have to wait until the call center is open and try them.
So far I have signed up for term life insurance and increased my HSA contribution by $10 per paycheck (from $25 to $35 so by a big percentage if not a big amount!). The HSA task just involved a single email to my manager, so it was very easy. Life insurance was a bit more to it but also very easy: I used Bestow, which for me had the best combo of rates, ease of sign up, and decent reviews. I think I Ideally need to fill in a few more details about Sweaty as beneficiary, but I am officially signed up.
I will probably do a bit with going through clothes this weekend.
I should add something here about cleaning up the garden/getting it ready for winter. My goal is just to make a meaningful start on that!
Trees removed in prep for reno. Plumber fixed leaky connection. I got the supplies to cure the cast iron skillets. I worked through all the logins to roll over IRA. Found the supplies I needed to fix A/C runoff. Started working on my clown collar in preparation for Dance Mag photo. Need to borrow the right bit from neighbor to take down playhouse. Itās cold outside. All that prep should make me ready to cross some more off this week. I did just about nothing on saturday and thatās okay.
I added a bit into the shredding bag.
I thought about the donation run but it didnāt happen - maybe this week
The ticket stubs are still organized in their original state (in photo albums)
Finished going through my closet for clothes that are too big so I can donate. My husband received boxes of inside Xmas lights that we donāt want so they are going. My best friend also quit drinking and has lost a ton of weight so she gave me about 12 tops so I just needed to buy 2 pairs of jeans. I also need to go through the coffee mugs before dropping stuff off.
Hey! I didnāt even have the giant box of papers that needed to be disposed of in a secure fashion on my list. But I just realized - yesterday husband burned it next to the greenhouse area where he was working in order to stay warm. Two birds, one stone. (There were branches that he needed out of his way involved as well).
Do we get bonus points for the actual fire taking care of the dumpster fire? Fighting fire with fire over here, yo.
This weekās success:
A lot of things taken out for Buy Nothing (some new things I chose to get rid of), and I sold 1 item today. I ended up offering delivery to make the sale, but I didnāt mind it was about an 8 mile bike ride and I otherwise havenāt done anything other than walk this weekend. I have 3 things left to sell this month.
For meals, never planned anything but didnāt get takeout at all this week and ended up using what I had really well. I used frozen kale stems to infuse the cream sauce for a gratin (kind of hard to tell if that imparted anything lol) and I froze my remaining herb bunches in olive oil in ice cube trays so I didnāt have such a time crunch to use it. Used up a baking mix Iāve had for months if not a year. The dayās still young so I could plan for the week ahead but I have plenty of leftovers and rice and lentils and condiments to make sauces, so I donāt need a lot of rocket science to get through this weekās food needs. If I feel up to it I would like to bake something to snack on this week (probably a lime tart given what I have on hand).
I have made a significant dent in logging my business sales and expenses. Like, more than half of the sales and expense related emails that were in my inbox have been logged and filed in the appropriate folder.
Small progress on the unholy closet. I broke down some boxes that are sizes I donāt think I will need, particularly since they are not priority mail boxes and thus are difficult to print shipping from home on, as my postal scale shit the bed a while ago and I havenāt replaced it. And I sure as fuck am not going to stand in the out-the-door line at the post office to mail something in person, nope nope nope. So, those went into the recycling. I also threw out some ratty scraps of tissue paper.
I had some foamboard protest signs in there too. I put them on the alternative not-Buy-Nothing-officially group that sprang up when Buy Nothing shut down all the groups because of the stay home advisory. Had 1 taker but she no-showed, and no one else is interested. Oh well. They are Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Princess Leia protest signs, FFS! How does no one want these!
Painting done! Or done enough, phase I is complete. Gutter guy can be called. Phase II painting involves completely redoing the porch and removing to stupid half-wall thing the previous owners put in, Iām hoping to put that off till 2021.
No progress on the storage unit, but eyyy now that weāre out of quarantine this is technically possible. I need to remind Koala that we have to figure this out.
Office/craft room progress:
ordered blinds, should arrive by end of the month
bought some lamps, should arrive next week
partially disentangled my fabric stash from Koalaās (Iā¦am very possessive of my crafting supplies and Did Not Like having our stashes intermingled)
started putting away fabric (this is like 70% done).
Next steps:
I need to ask Hummingbird again about hanging my pegboards. Hopefully she can get that done today or tomorrow and then I can start putting away my small sewing notions.
I need to figure out some more storage for that room, for all of my small notions ā either more shelves, or one of those 3-tier rolly carts, or something.
do we buy another sewing or cutting tableā¦? ugh choices. ugh spending money.
