Challenge: Put out the Dumpster Fire December šŸ§ÆšŸ”„šŸ—“

Resisting the urge to put everything down and instead focusing on things that reasonably can be done and that I’ve been ignoring for so long I don’t even notice them anymore.

  • Go through books in the dining room bookshelf and get rid of the ones I’m never going to read (really need to be honest with myself about that!)
  • Go through the box of junk and get rid of what’s actually junk
  • Sell textbooks
  • Take donation bin to the donation place
  • Take extra dog food to the pet food pantry
  • Put dog crate and what remains of the other box into the storage locker.

ETA:

  • Buy some new socks and turn ALL the ones with holes into rags

  • Go through my clothes and send them to ThredUp/drop off at Goodwill (covid permitting the drop off).

  • Go through New Yorkers and get rid of ones I don’t want (my mom gives me her old ones and they have really piled up)

  • Actually send out all Xmas gifts this month

  • Drop off some food at local food pantry

For December, I want to make a master list of house projects, in one place, and prioritize it in the following ways:
-maintenance urgent
-maintenance less urgent
-dependent on other projects
-we can do
-we can do but might consider hiring out
-we definitely need to hire out
-dependent on weather
-not dependent on weather
-for aesthetic
-for function
Avoiding adding cost estimate on purpose, because I know myself and will get hung up doing research and my list won’t get created!
I’m putting this in my journal as well. If anyone has any other categories to organize by, feel free to post in my journal!

I think my biggest dumpster fire of 2020 is that I delayed various doctors’ appts I needed but didn’t do because of the pandemic. I won’t get them in in time, but I should at least plan out the visits / find the providers to contact come Jan 2!

Another fire is holiday gifts.

Last fire is to get rid of extra kitchen appliances that are taking up space - sell, gift, give away by end of year!

Ooh I love a good monthly goal list.

Objectives:

  • Set up my office/craft room and unpack the things. This includes: get window coverings (blinds?), obtain a lamp, put my fabric stash away, get a trash can, clear all of the piles of stuff off the floor
  • Cancel my storage unit (we moved out but apparently have to go in person to cancel the account, grrr)

…that’s it! The first one is obviously the bigger piece, lol.

I have some :wastebasket: :fire::

  • Doctor’s appointment to get rid of bc method I don’t like
  • Dentist’s appointment for cleaning
  • Cancel US phone service

All of this is way overdue! I won’t overwhelm myself with every little thing I’d love to do before end of year, but stick with the important stuff.

My biggest dumpster fire: housematenant

By the end of the month all his things will be gone and I will have scoured, scrubbed, repainted the room, and moved back in to an actual bedroom.

Maybe a rug purchase. The one I had in there is now in the dogs’ room.

Stretch maybe changing the light fixture.

I thought I hadn’t done anything thus far, but it turns out, I have accomplished one thing on my list.

I’ve continued to just not as planned. Even mostly managed the no guilt apart.

This method may be causing me to get a few things done. Almost finished with Christmas shopping.

Keeping that Duolingo streak going just fine. I put the money in my HSA and IRA for this paycheck. Just waiting a few more weeks for the ot/vac payout so I can pay off that card.

Didn’t get around to dropping that bag off at Goodwill or cleaning that shelf yet. I’m being lazy right now.
