Challenge: Put out the Dumpster Fire December šŸ§ÆšŸ”„šŸ—“

Late to this one. lolā€¦ just a little bit. But am going to give myself a pass as I am still waiting for the latest bombshell to be dropped about the house, and whether I can stay. No idea. Could happen any time. No whatsoever clue. Just going into Christmas. Greatā€¦
(Since he brought the estate agent round on my Birthday, whatā€™s the betting heā€™s saving this latest one for Christmas Day? Would not put it past him).

But hey, I survived 2020ā€¦ Wellā€¦ I nearly have. Although, that said, I did just eat the chocolate reindeer behind the 24th window on my advent calendar. On the 19th. Like the heathen I so clearly am. So that probably means I have jinxed myself now. Oh well, tā€™was nice knowing yā€™allā€¦

Well that would just be the reindeer turd in your cocoa, wouldnā€™t it?! Ooof. Well, hoping things turn out well for you :crossed_fingers:

It would indeed. Excellent way to put itā€¦ And thank you. Am doing the staying strong thing. Or tryingā€¦

Update 3

Had the doctorā€™s appointment yesterday and everything went smoothly. Still putting off calling Sprint account services, though.

Iā€™ve done nothing towards my goals so far this week but I plan to finish the lower floor this afternoon. Stay tuned to see if I actually do it.

  • Finish sewing the patches onto my coat ā€“ :white_check_mark:
  • Tackle the mending pile and mend (or alter) 3 things ā€“ PROGRESS: not much more since last week, but itā€™s still going  ETA: As of 8:42 PM I have completed a second mend! Just one more to go.
  • Eat down the pantry: donā€™t buy any pantry staples that are primarily for me ā€“ PROGRESS: so far, so good, though pizza has still not been made :arrow_right:
  • Stretch goal of finishing my cardigan - PROGRESS: everything is done but the blocking!

I was called in to work yesterday and then was super sleepy so didnā€™t get any project work done.

Hereā€™s where Iā€™m starting now today - I donā€™t need to repaint; this was just painted a year ago. But Iā€™m kind of in the mood for pinks and purples instead of blues since this is just mine where before it was fun partner-y decisions (which I loved, but still).

Progress list

I have a tendency to jump around when Iā€™m by myself so Iā€™m experimenting with posting steps Iā€™ve finished here. Hopefully this satisfies my ā€œbreakā€ impulse without being distracted by the whole forum.

  • Swept the ceiling, walls, trim, floors. Made a profit of 73Ā¢!
  • Mopped the floor with my carpet cleaner for the scrubbie brush
  • Curled my hair
  • Preheating the oven to make sweet potato fries from a bag instead of cooking a whole meal
Stopped to stare at how cute this guy is

And this helper whoā€™whoā€™s followed my every move and reported back to Oldster

"After lunch progress
  • Sanded almost all the floorā€¦ Thereā€™s a 2 foot square space by the door that I need an extension cord for. I only have a 5in orbital sander so this is not down to the wood but I think Iā€™ll reseal it anyway and next time rent a floor sander.

I donā€™t think Iā€™m going to restain yet since Iā€™ll have rugs down.

But a LOT of the stains and all the general goo stuck to the floor are gone, so well worth postponing painting to get this done today while ii had daylight.

Went to home depot to pick up polyurethane and a rug and am now getting back to the room at 7pm after sitting for a bit.

I was hoping to sleep in there tonight but sleepiness yesterday won that fight.

Main things left are getting rid of clothes and hit by a bus folder, both of which I should have more time to work on this week!

I have figured out how much probably I need to put in a lump sum to max the rrsp, and I will confirm on Tuesday once the work paperwork shows me whether they put in anything from my bonus, or if that came through straight (just taxes removed)

Weekly check in: Iā€™ve sorted a lot of digital information and have started working on the physical paperwork.

We had to move a heap of stuff in our house to let my grandma safely move around with her walker. So tasks for this following week are:

  • Find new homes for all the stuff we moved. Spend a lot of time on decluttering and spring cleaning threads.
  • get rid of 1 box or drawerā€™s worth of physical papers.
  • Make a step by step plan for getting rid of all our old phones.

We did a bunch more clean out of the storage unit today. We will have to take things to Goodwill tomorrow, since it was Sunday today, but theyā€™re out of the storage unit. One more trip, or maybe one and a half, will do the task.

New goal: I have to clean up the living room before Friday so that my mother doesnā€™t see that we live in a pigsty during the family Christmas zoom.

You really only have to clean up the side of the room that will be visible on screen.

I almost finished the floors. I canā€™t today because I need to let one more box rest in the room where it needs to go.

But I seriously have less than one row to do.

Good point!

Week three - nope, fell short of goal :x:

Health, food, body stuff, mental health, poor coping, just a dumpster fire really
  • leave home 6/7 days a week - YES, 7/7
  • strength-building workout once a week - NO. I reached this afternoon and realized Iā€™d been too tired all week and was still too tired. Not just physically. More that I was too tired of digging deep to force myself to do things I didnā€™t feel like doing, because it was better if I did them. Some amount of that is just being a responsible grown up, but Iā€™ve been gouging the wood of the bottom of my barrel for months. I just ran out of desire to dig.
  • limit 3 standard alcoholic drinks a week - MAYBE, 3 drinks this week so far but I might have another tonight because Iā€™m kind of out of capacity to withhold self-comfort measures from myself
  • limit 3 treats a week - NOPE, though I ate slightly less junk than last week.
  • 7 hours of sleep 4/7 nights a week - YES, 4/7 nights this week

Soā€¦? :woman_shrugging:t2: Iā€™m hoping DH and I get a little mental rest during the holiday break so we can cope adequately because it looks like weā€™re being locked down harder soon (the only part that changes our lives is if they close schools, which it looks like they will). I donā€™t know how much genuine self care (sleep, food, exercise, etc.) Iā€™ll be able to manage but Iā€™ll try and try to be proud that weā€™ve survived this horrible year. Itā€™s nice to reach stated, specific goals but anything I do to be healthier is a worthwhile, small step.

Week 3 Check-in
All I did from the list this week was fix the A/C runoff issue.

I did, however, leave off a glaring task that did see some progress. We started clearing out the garage! It needs to be cleared by the 28th for the renovation to start. We organized into: store, give away, dump, and hazardous materials. We cleaned everything we took inside to store. It was a big day. Tomorrow is the dump hall and taking 2 large PA systems to our friendā€™s storage shed. Christmas day, weā€™ll take a trip to drop off some of the stuff weā€™ve been storing for Husbandā€™s family.

I have off Dec 24 - Jan 2 so I will likely get through more of this list. Best intentions.

Letā€™s do this!

Week 3 check-in
1.No longer a thing.
2. Still really need to do this.
3. Done!
4. This is laughable at this pointā€¦ Just will need to dedicate a day to it during my week off. An hour a week did not happen at all.

Room progress yesterday:

I got the whole room cleaned (except the ceiling fan because I forgot until I turned it off after I mopped in prep for polyurethane.

Sanded the floor (not enough to get the deeper stains out but enough that I can reseal it).

Cleaned the floor multiple times.

One coat of quick dry polyurethane.

Bought a rug.

Now waiting waiting. I can put furniture in tonight, but not the rug.

Maybe painting today if I get out of work early enough to have daylight (not likely).

Week 3 check-in:

  • :white_check_mark: cancel credit card to avoid annual fee - Week 1: fee hasnā€™t posted so I havenā€™t done this. Hmmā€¦maybe they just arenā€™t charging a fee this year? UPDATE: fee posted in week 2. Week 3: DONE!
  • :white_check_mark: cancel streaming service before the monthly rate increases - done in week 1
  • :white_check_mark: update income/spending tracker for November - done in week 1. Love that new NW number!
  • :white_check_mark: round out charitable giving for the year (Hey, itā€™s Giving Tuesday today! I should do this first.) - Week 1: Gave a lot on Giving Tuesday: more than last year, but not yet at my goal for the year. Still need to decide how much to give to a few new-to-me places. Week 3: DONE!
  • :construction: list at least 5 things on Buy Nothing - Week 1: one listing (all gifted). Week 2: 3 more listings (two gifted). One left!
  • :white_check_mark: finish dumpster fire crochet project - Week 2: done!
  • :construction: write annual letter - this is a week 3 goal. Week 3 update: draft written; still need to proof and print
  • :white_check_mark: research and write paper for school - Week 2: done!
  • :construction: finish spice cabinet project - Week 2: made significant progress here. Iā€™m almost ready to call it done. This is my big week 4 goal, which will free up a lot of counter space

Bonus items (want to get one of the following done):

  • purchase and install new garbage disposal
  • clean out pantry
  • organize craft/storage room (imagine TrisPriorā€™s closet, but a whole room)

(one of these will be my week 5 project)

My :fire::fire::fire::

  1. Clean up luggage-mess area in front of the closet thatā€™s been sitting there forever. Luggage is out of the mess area.
  2. Mail out the packages Iā€™ve been sitting on. Ugh does sending out three dozen Christmas cards count? No? Dang. Still no progress. I may just give up on doing this this year, getting to the post office is just SO SHITTY these days.
  3. Finish reading the 6 books I need to read to hit my goal of 52 for the year. 7/6 books completed ā€“ poetry and Seanan McGuire, who is eminently readable
  4. Get gift knitting projects off my plate. So sloooow
  5. Make profiteroles and eclairs a few times as choux practice. Well, Iā€™m planning to make a yule log, orange and cranberry breakfast buns, and a gingerbread house this week, so maybe letā€™sā€¦ not try to also get choux practice in.
