YTA, it was homebrew currant wine and your adoptive mom should be above that.

Marilla faces enough judgement in this bullshit society and I will not hear this.

I am considering being very late to the party and going to the Bay tomorrow to see if they have any pillows left

The one in O did earlier this week.

my local location did (medium sized city). they actually had a lot more stuff than I thought they would.

We got among the last of the queen pillows, they still had king and square. No queen mattress toppers left, but several twin and kings

Okay all…talk to me about streaming services available to Canadians. Our DVD player finally gave up the ghost. Hubby and I like to watch movies. Mostly classics. No horror. He’s interested in sci-fi. I’m more interested in comedy. We both like to get the news. I like opera and classical music. He’s into swing, jazz, ā€˜60s to 80s music.

Where do we even start looking at options?

ohhh first I would check to see if your library has Kanopy or Hoopla - they are both library based streaming services.

Seconding Kanopy for older movies.
Also CBC Gem for free.

Probably the CTV app as well, now that you mention GEM

We were watching a Sandra Bullock movie when it died. The Proposal. Doesn’t seem to be on Kanopy. Ideas?

Internet piracy is the only way to watch the specific things you want instead of just picking from what’s available for free

Yes. If you rotate between paid services you can see a lot, and your Canadian option there is Crave (and CBC gem premium). You can also ā€œbuyā€ (rent) individual movies on most services.

Crave and Gem and Hoopla have loads of content. Tubi is a free app with a lot (owned by paramount) I put it on the TV where it’s spying is limited. We also now cast using a Roku which comes with what seems to be 1999 satellite TV. I am still in awe. I assume Roku and Tubi profit off of data. CTV and crave have overlap - crave has more unlocked.

We don’t mind paying for a service, if we get what we want to see. But we don’t want to be nickeled and dimed to death watching each movie. One site we saw was asking $5.49 US to watch ā€œThe Proposalā€!

Thanks. I’ll check those out.

That sounds pretty similar to what I was paying at blockbuster 20 years ago.

Yup.

I have to remind myself of that sometimes. ā€œthey want me to PAY to watch THIS PARTICULAR movie? What is this, 1999?ā€

Yeah. I’m dating myself. Both Hubby and I are retired. Someone IRL today suggested we go on FB Marketplace and find a new-to-us DVD player. After years of not paying, having to pay again feels somehow like giving up!

another retirement analysis tool, this one with a 14 day free trial and much easier interface than adviice ($10 for first month) or the PWL freebie tool

does anyone have the WestJet credit card and have any particular pros/cons with it?

I have RBC avion right now. I am thinking of switching to the WestJet card because I might be travelling more in Canada in the next few years and the companion fare or lounge access seems tempting.

eta: hmm maybe nevermind, I might not be eligible due to income.
