Bridgerton

not sure “no one questions it” is really fair here- they worked extremely hard to get that movie made and it took like over a decade before it was possible to get it to going even with HUGE names attached, then it was straight-to-TV movie and is still hard to find these days. Despite being the best cinderella.

Sorry, no one in universe/on screen questions it. I’m sure behind the scenes it was a huge deal!

Ugh this season is gonna make me have body feelings isn’t it

Colin sucks

She looks amazing and no one is talking about her body but I can’t see another reason why people think she is unmarriageable. Alas.

In the books she’s been out for 10 years which is why she is a spinster. A little less believable on only her 3rd season at the age of 21

Right! I don’t know how I feel about them being so much younger.

I appreciate that in the show they have said nothing about her weight and just focused on her needing better color dresses

Yeah same  good to know there’s a different situation in the books

Well she’s without much dowry $$ and very awkward and doesn’t talk to people so that is part of it

That’s fair but her sisters are badly dressed and awkward and also lack dowries (or did they have dowries of some kind?), and they are married.

I remember the one sister married a dude very into cheese and who seemed like a fitting amount of eccentric. I don’t remember the second sister’s engagement/marriage.

Looking forward to watching tomorrow! (Yes I’m in this thread with potential spoilers, whatevs.)

Her mum pulled together some funds to get those girls married off, i remember “where has the dowry gone?” was a plot point in Season 2 when one of them was trying to organise their wedding. She may not have put aside anything for Pen.

Thoughts on various reasons Pen may not be desirable (but I agree we should have gotten the 10 years or at least 5+ on marriagemart, not 3):

Pen is also super awkward, is more of an intellectual and there’s just less men looking for that in a wife; i dont know what she’s like at dancing but the Featheringtons were the laughingstock of the ton for just being garishly dressed and with 2 older sisters she was very much an afterthought. 3rd daughters are maybe more useless than 3rd sons. Nobody wants to be connected to the Featheringtons right now, while the older girls married men who were not nobility, “mere” businessmen from what I gathered and Pen seems to mostly still be interacting with actual nobility.

Totally agree! I just started watching the first episode and she’s so awkward that all the guys who were initially interested are scared off.

“New Colin” is so annoying.

OK I’m watching episode one now.

The writers knew exactly what they were doing with

Summary

Mom Featherington saying I’m so relieved I’ll always have you to take care of me.

That stood out to me, too.

It was only a matter of time… I’m going to dive into the economics of the Bridgerton world. Like how does Colin afford to travel? How do all these rich people stay rich when they don’t work? Are dowries invested? Live Tues 5/21 4:30/7:30

How much does a dress cost vs. wages for someone working in trades (like even a seamstress making those dresses)? Especially since Penelope starts off the season with a new wardrobe.

You don’t have to answer that one in particular, I had other questions as a kind of brainstorm but now they’ve all left my brain. Oh, wait, like maybe how would a titled family quietly hide their diminishing funds.

Super easy to answer thanks to historical records!!
