Bridgerton

(Also, Anthony’s freak out behavior is the kind of shit that gets you stung. Kate being chill is the exact thing you should do when a bee lands on you)

Episode 5 in the books!

I like:
-Slow burn
-Not repeating the plot of the first season re: compromising position meaning Anthony actually has to grapple with his feelings
-High stakes! Someone could lose their honor!
-Benedict. I hate Book Benedict but so far Show Benedict is way more chill. That scene where the lady artist wants to paint him nude and he just starts stripping, so funny.
-Daphne swanning around as a duchess and mother acting like she’s the oldest now
-Lady Featherington. The Boy especially likes Prudence F, whom he describes as having a “fuck it” attitude and just going along with whatever.
-Their boldness in thinking they could improve on Colin Firth’s white shirt scene AND DOING IT. “Refreshing” indeed.

Less sold on:
-Threat to sisterly relationship. I am so anxious about this!
-Eloise playing at being a socialist to flirt with printer boy and generally being a pill the rest of the time. And why doesn’t she dress like a woman who is out now? She is wearing the same clothes and weird little hat as last season.

The Boy also pointed out that a flaw with this season is that Anthony needs a “boxing buddy” like Simon had last season so he would have another man to talk about his feelings with (preferably while being all many and physical).

So interested to see where it’s going and how things are going to be handled from the other books.

I’ve been stung a few times and they’ve been fine (and this was before I gave myself injections every week). It really depends on the bee and the person.

SOOOO agree. I read the books back to back and was like “ugh, this is the same plot device.”

Nor is book 2 the last time it is used!

I feel like the Eloise plot line COULD work but I feel like there’s too many subplots going on! But Eliose is a rebellious teenager that comes from a super-privileged family so her OTT sort of judgement of other women/being annoying I feel like fits perfectly in.

Her appearance definitely changed - has longer hems now and she’s not wearing fichus when she’s at evening events (also other out characters should be wearing Fichus, spencers or pelisses in the day, as she does, and not have tons of cleavge out - historically but not in ShondaRegency world).

The big issue is that her hair is never up, but this show is incorrect historically and all the women constantly have their hair down so :woman_shrugging:t2:

Interesting! It still seems like an interesting choice to have her not dress like the other women. Perhaps she dresses differently because she is resisting being A Lady Of Society.

Spoiler

I would have given Anthony so much more shit about his behavior in season one, but I suspect Daphne thought it would fall on deaf ears and thus did not even bother. But now I want them to remake this part and have Daphne at least threaten to duel and get talked down. :joy:

Also, IT LOOKS BAD DOWN. SO BAD.

Actually she’s one of the few that has a historically correct haircut! those mullets were very popular.

I really liked her comment “Because you were SO MUCH help to me last season”

bear in mind that ladies would wear their hair up usually, and really long hair in the back, so they’d have a pancake mullet so they could maximize the front curls.

I thought that was really restrained on her part, lol. I would have been fine with that being the opening to a full on rant. I can see her definitely trying to be a peacemaker though, either as lifelong eldest daughter/fourth child or as Married Woman Who Knows Things Now.

Just because it’s accurate does not make me like it. Eeeeeewwww.

Now show us all Simon as a palate cleanser

I don’t think it looks bad with curls, but Eloise has very straight hair (I think?) so that’s why it looks so bad.

I will watch the hell out of this.

Triggering SA Bridgerton Question

Ok, so basically I’ve avoided watching this show specifically because a lot of period piece shows are pretty rapey/ “shut up, stupid woman, a man is talking” vibes. Like Game of Thrones is a hard no-go for me.

No shade at all to you on enjoying problematic stuff if that’s the case here, I enjoy true crime so I get it and have zero room to talk, lol, but can someone just lmk if that’s a component of the show? If it’s not I’d like to watch it but if it is I’ll keep avoiding. TY!

Summary

In the first season there’s a famous lack of consent scene (Daphne trying to get a baby from her husband when she knew he didn’t want one), but other than that I think it was all light and fluffy!
