Turkey vultures at the salmon run
we both saw our birds of the day (probably) for merlin.
I wanted a hooded merganser, and the shadowy one was looking for a cape may warbler
So cute!
cleaning up old photos
this one is in the Auckland zoo. the under layer colours are so unanticipated to me
I want to knit a sweater in this colourway, or have a dress, or something (also, the background colours against the bird’s plumage is so stunning to me)
As I was taking a photo of this beauty the memory card let me know it was full.
I’ve cleaned up 5 gig so far, and a lot more to go, but it’s nice to see some of the shots I got in the past.
What a great shot!
Absolutely gorgeous. All of them are.
when a whole bunch of gulls take flight at once, there could be an interesting visitor about to show up (probably a red tail, so only slightly interesting depending on your level of jadedness)
Ok this is an excellent shot
harlequin slumming with buffles and long tails
we’ve looked for him several times last year, but this is the first time we’ve had a confirmed sighting. they are rare in this area.
I agree on the likely night heron
I find kingfishers so challenging to photograph well. Something about the colouration that the camera struggles to capture. And of course they rarely cooperate.
So very flighty! A kingfisher lands on one of the posts by my in-law’s decks / over the lagoon. But if you open the door it flies away. This time I watched it fly over to the neighbor’s deck railing where it landed. Also got it in motion and landing on a nearby nesting pole (often used by a great blue heron.)
that flight is wonderful
