I bought a cheap phone tripod on amazon and it’s fine. The only thing to double check for is that it can shoot horizontally, because weirdly some do not. Most tripods for phones don’t double for SLR cameras because the way they’re attached is different. Also, tripods for SLRs are typically bigger and stronger because of the weight of the camera. Doesn’t mean they don’t exist though! But I have two, one for cameras and one for phone.

You can check their website, they almost certainly are paraben free in their fragrance. So as long as you don’t react to what they use it should be a good option. They make good stuff IIRC.

Thanks! I think I’ll give it a try.

I think the right Gorillapod would fit the bill! Maybe this model, depending on how big a digital camera you’re planning to get. They are great. You can wrap around tree branches and stuff, or just stand on 3 legs.

Does anyone have any recommendations for leggings that are slippery enough to go under jersey dresses without sticking to the dress and bunching it up?

I have a bunch of fall/winter dresses that I’d love to wear to work, but I work in a Microbiology lab. We’re required to wear long pants and closed toe, closed heel, “chemical resistant” shoes (aka leather boots), so I can’t just wear the dress with stockings. I have plenty of leggings, but all but one or two pairs catch the dress material and make it weird.

Do I just need a slip?

I would try some of the de static hacks. What you’re feeling may actually be static and not fabric catching.

I love slips! I don’t know why they ever went out of fashion. Slips in the winter time are great because they prevent the cling (unless it’s static like BJ mentioned) and add warmth, especially if you get silk.

I want pants that are as comfy as sweatpants but that I can wear out without looking like a slob. Also must not be a magnet for cat hair. Any recommendations?

Also comfy but attractive dresses where I don’t have to wear a bra. I basically wear the same three dresses now and two of them (they are the same dress in different colors) it’s actually fairly obvious that I’m not wearing a bra but at this point I don’t care. But it would be nice if it wasn’t that obvious!

I have been really enjoying the Old Navy linen pants for looking out together while feeling super comfy. Not sure about the cat hair component, but it doesn’t seem to attract Luigi hair too badly.

Pet insurance? I would normally say nah, we have enough in savings to cover any pet emergencies, but Val has already eaten two strings and the vet vehemently suggested getting it for when he inevitably (?) doesn’t throw up or pass the thing he ate without harm.

Does Val have any preexisting conditions that have been diagnosed? Has he lived with you for a long time? This is awful to think about, but if your pet has a critical illness that was expensive to treat, would it be more important to you to make them as comfortable as you could and thank them for their time with you, or to aggressively treat it? (No need to answer any/all, just something to think about)

We have Healthy Paws, and honestly, they should probably put us in the Healthy Paws commercials: they’ve saved us something like $15-20K over the past year-ish. Pet insurance almost always won’t cover preexisting conditions, annual checkups and vaccines, behavioral issues, and dental care, but if you have a dog with a mystery illness or who needs expensive surgery (like obstructions!) I’ve found it to be worth it. We’ve liked them a lot because it’s easy to apply for reimbursement, they reimburse you within a week of submitting expenses, and they don’t try to nickel and dime you about expenses.

Yes. If young and qualified for good cheap coverage, it often can pencil out.

My vet said pet insurance can be very worth it before your pet gets pre-existing conditions. If we had a string eater I would definitely get it. She recommended Trupanion but said that they were recently acquired and she didn’t know if they were still good.

I don’t know what kind of price range you want to stay in, but Athleta and Title Nine both have great options for nice looking jogger pants that are not sweat pants but are just as comfy. And both have great dresses that either have built in sports bras, or are stretchy enough to not require a bra.

looking for jewelry recommendations. I want some new hoop earrings, nothing massive but bigger than a standard small hoop, maybe an inch? . Silver and not crazy expensive, maybe in the $50 price point?

Val is maybe 1 or 2 and he has no health conditions besides being a dummy who chews on absolutely everything.

We don’t have it for the other cat, because he is generally sensible. If we could know that Val would only eat one thing worthy of surgery then insurance vs just paying with cash would probably be even, but… what if he eats multiple things? Or has other issues?

My childhood cat is my main reference point and she had no medical issues or accidents until the day before she died.

If it’s something I would wear all the time, I’m willing to splurge a little  There’s an Athleta store in Portland so I could go try on stuff in person!

Ooooh, so it says cotton twill, will it wrinkle? And I didn’t see any petite sizes, did they fit you fine without alteration?
