Your Very Own Personal Shopper

I bought one of the lowest end DeLonghi machines and have had it for a couple years now. I’m pretty sure someone here or on MMM recommended it to me? Sorry I can’t recall who you are! Anyway, it was a gift for my husband who was a professional barista for like a decade, and he says it’s good and easy to clean, which is high praise from him!

My moderately broken phone is acting up more today. I can’t decide if I should get an iPhone SE or 12 mini, or maybe a pixel? The pixels seem really big though.

Someone tell me what to do.

I have a Pixel 4a and it’s about the same size as an iPhone SE. I’ve been super happy with the Pixel 4a and it takes great photos

The Pixel 4a is a bit cheaper if you’re considering storage. The standard pixel 4a ($349, 128gb) has the same storage as the mid range iPhone se ($449). Other pros of the pixel are customizability. Pros of the iPhone include the software that processes images, which IMO is better than any android. However, android has improved enough that most people won’t see a real difference.

So, unless you’re really into photo/video editing stuff or you really want to stay in the Apple ecosystem, I say give the pixel 4a a try!

FWIW- If you were going with the highest end phones from either OEM I’d recommend the opposite choice. I think the highest end iPhones are better than the highest end pixel. On the low-end, not so much. Oh also, I really like lower end Nokia phones. I can’t recommend one personally but if you want to save money I’d check them out. Camera quality isn’t as nice, but other than that they’re great phones.

Yeah I can buy a 64 GB SE for $250 from my carrier, but going up to 128 makes it $450.

The Pixel does seem noticeably larger than the SE (0.2” taller), but if I really wanted to prioritize size then the 12 mini is the smallest…

This is why I started looking at this a week ago and promptly gave up.

What have you had in the past? iPhones?

I would say, you functionally need more storage now than in earlier models with phones, because nobody is optimizing performance anymore. So a lot of apps eat up a ridiculous amount of space now. Storage quantities you used to get away with may not adequately run everything you need now.

Yup. I had a trac phone, a sliding keyboard phone, and then iPhones. Mr Darling also has an iPhone, which makes sharing apps and Find My iPhone nice, but also has somehow mushed our Apple IDs together so sometimes he gets my texts. Pros and cons.

Based on that info I’d go with the iPhone. You won’t save that much $ with the Pixel and you know you like the iPhone. A lot of it really is preference at this point. That’s what I’d buy for you, though.

Oh and that text thing is a common issue. It’s something in settings, I can’t remember what but I can see if I saved it. I walked someone else through this a while ago…

Yeah I’m thinking that between the low price and the home button I should just get the SE.

But the 12 comes in purple.

Again this is why I’ve been using a broken phone for 6 months.

Hahaha, well a lot of people buy phones based on color! You could also get a purple case!

I think this might be it?

That’s totally it! You’re incredible, I’ve googled this like 5 separate times over the last 3 years.

I feel like cases are required, so phone colour is less important. But with an iPhone you get more case colours

I have a pixel 4a and like it a lot, but one of the reasons it is cheaper is it’s not properly waterproof! Which is an important consideration for some I think!

I switched from iPhone to Pixel 4a specifically because I wanted to keep a headphone jack! I’m quite happy with it, especially the camera. Overall not too different of an experience, and transferring data and everything went fine.

I had issues with the original Pixel (had a microphone problem that manifested every time I was in the middle of important phone calls with my doctor) and got it replaced twice under warranty. Google denied it was ever an issue but eventually settled a class action lawsuit. Then Marmalade got a Pixel 3 and the screen started flickering right after the warranty expired. By the end, half the screen was flickering all the time. My friend also had some kind of issue with his Pixel 3. I think the Pixel has great software and crappy hardware, and I’m never buying another one.

Now I have a Samsung S10e (purchased a Certified Pre-owned through Samsung) and I love it. It’s a smaller phone and unfortunately they discontinued the small version for the S20 series. My friend got an S20 at Costco for a great price!

The S10e is $350:

What types of tea do you like? Herbal, green, black, etc? Smoky, sweet, loose leaf or bags?

If you were in Chicago I’d say check out the Coffee & Tea Exchange. Local is a good place to start because you can sample and smell things. For a tea set, not sure if you want like cups and saucers which I don’t use (just mugs lol) but my fiancé got me this one-cup brew pot (400ml) for loose leaf and it’s perfect!
