Ah, well, therein very likely lies the rub.

I agree that wireless is probably the better investment (says someone who has had a dog chew up 3 TV remote controls because sometimes we just forget to put them away overnight).

I think this will cure like at least 40% of my problems, you’re so right

A bunch of babies in my life are approaching their first birthday - anyone here (parents or otherwise) got suggestions for good presents? I’m thinking maybe picture books or something? Ideally less than ~£15 (and available in the UK, but I reckon globalism is hopefully not dead enough to make US or Canadian suggestions too hard to find)

Board books, teething toys, maybe a cute bib?

Last summer I brought stacking animals blocks back from Europe for an 18 mo old, which was very popular (Andes Stacking Toy | Wooden Animal Toys | Le Toy Van Inc. – Le Toy Van, Inc.) . Can’t go wrong with books. A friend was pleased to receive a lot of clothes (but double check size).

I like to buy a few months ahead because they grow fast, and no one has complained. :woman_shrugging:

Board books are great! They don’t take up too much space, are easy to rehome if we end up with duplicates, and don’t entail a lot of the clutter/noise of other toys.

Since you’re such an incredible artist, what about a cute framed painting or drawing? At that age the gift is really for the parents anyway

Does anyone have a recommendation for any of the Ring outdoor cameras?

Wanting to get better video coverage of our house than what the doorbell gives us.

At that age they are almost ready for real toys so a nice sturdy truck can be a good gift for a girl or maybe a baby doll for a boy. Vice versa they are more likely to already have.

Huge fan of board books, especially ones that blur the line between book and toy. Books with flaps, sequins, etc. “Never Touch a Panda” is a good one, and I think it’s part of a franchise. Also a fan of “Farm Block” and “Space Block.”

I also feel like Tabitha Paige books might be up your alley. I have this set and love the artwork in them.

Ah, those are so cute! I do love an interactive book, might look at those as options

Thanks all!

I’m wondering if something like what @aaronpk set up for their building site? though that might be more of a lift than you were thinking of.

Does anyone have experience with or have a recommendation for a glass cutting tool (the kind you use to cut bottles and the like for crafts or whatnot) that works well and isn’t a piece of garbage?

I use Unifi cameras everywhere, they are probably a bit more complicated to set up than Ring, but not too bad. They are definitely more expensive though. I do like that the recordings are kept on a local hard drive rather than shipped up to the cloud.

Kinkajou! https://www.bottlecutting.com/

There is still a learning curve and an element of chance, but we’ve gotten some good cuts! Does not work on square bottles…

Yeah, we’re locked into a subscription and I don’t particularly want to devote energy to figuring out a new ecosystem

I am looking for a very specific sort of container and I wonder if anyone has seen one. The one I have came from like a temporary display at the grocery store. It is approximately a one-cup size. You fill the bottom with, say, broccoli florets, and then there is an interior lid that holds ranch or hummus or whatever, and then a top lid.

This is the one I have. It is kind of broken and one of my children seems to have misplaced the dip receptacle. Can anyone help? (Doesn’t have to be plastic.)

I had one very much like that that came from Aldi, but it’s the kind of thing that just pops up there occasionally.

Have you looked in the plastic container section of the grocery store? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them at Woodmans recently.
