Your Very Own Personal Shopper

Not sure if this is the right place, but I got a $150 Sephora gift card and that place intimidates the shit out of me. Would anyone here want it for $120?

If there’s stuff you know you like - order online? I don’t bother going in to my local for things like skincare replacements.

Order in law gifts shipped and wrapped to them. They have men’s skincare too

Anyone have recommendations for very soft sheets that are also good for people who sleep very, very hot? My partner and I are both portable furnaces

What do you use now for both sheets and blankets (especially: what materials is everything made of?)

Right now we have shitty microfiber sheets that were free with the purchase of our Tempurpedic mattress .

Blankets are random fuzzy blankets - I’m not at home right now but they’re probably polyester.

Yes we are basically college students lolol

I’d prefer more natural materials if possible…we tried linen sheets once (from Quince, I think?) and they were so scratchy at the start I couldn’t get past that (and they also stretch/sagged while on the bed a ton).

I really like my cotton sheets from llbean.

Not sure about how cooling they are but they feel really soft and nice. I also like that you can buy individual sheets (we have no use for flat sheets as we are a duvet cover household).

As a first step, try 100% cotton sheets you like the feel of (personally, I don’t like the shiny smoothness of sateen weave or high thread count, 400 TC percale is totally fine, IMO. I also hate stretchy jersey sheets. But YMMV to each their own). I’ve been pretty happy with Target Threshold brand, but also got ones I like at Kohls.

If it’s still a problem, could try switching blankets, too? I think we had a whole wool vs silk comforter discussion upthread.

Thank you! Right now the sheets are the most immediate problem sensory-wise, so I’m addressing that first. Sounds like cotton is a good first stop to investigate.

sounds like you will like percale – crisp and cool but soft! they are my fave too.

Bamboo works really well for GM who is a furnace but I don’t find it as soft as like microfiber or 100% cotton.

We have also been using the target threshold for years! I am also a hot sleeper and like these fine. The price point is good too. The downside is they don’t last super long (we’ve replaced them every couple years I think), but I haven’t found other sheets to have good longevity either

Second the recommendation for cotton percale. If you have a king or queen bed I highly recommend Piubelle sheets. They are made in Portugal and extremely light and airy but also not super delicate. I don’t see any online at TJ Maxx or Marshall’s, may be able to find them at Home Goods, or on eBay/Poshmark. I got two sets for the guest bed downstairs and I feel like I’m at a fancy hotel every time I use them! May take a handful of washings to break in.

Is there somewhere I can buy one of those over-toilet storage things that doesn’t suck as a company? Or is that just capitalism these days? My options that I can think of off hand - Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Amazon. I’d like to give my money to a good company but it seems like my options are “don’t buy things ever” or “DIY it with stuff from your backyard or a second hand store if you’re lucky”. I exaggerate but it’s become really frustrating.

Would start checking out the Habitat ReStore. They don’t suck and I see those storage things all the time.

Ours just closed and Goodwill furniture is more miss than hit. The joys of living in a college town.

It it’s a college town, then I bet those will start to show up at GW whenever move out starts. I could pick up 50 of them from the side of the road every summer!

FB marketplace?

How do you feel about Kohls? They have several options.

I see a bunch of them on marketplace! And of course, it’s a whole bunch less convenient that Amazon.

It might solve my laundry shelf issue, though. I wanted a rack to go over the dryer…

I put IKEA on my “OK” list for furniture since at least it’s European owned which right now is a higher standard. :upside_down_face:

Etsy also has some furnishings (which I always forget), and at least there’s a small business at the end you are supporting? (If anyone has a better persistent marketplace to find such things, I’m ears)

Costco? (online, not in person)
