FWIW husband needs a tablet for work. He doesn’t use Apple ANYTHING except for the iPad. They’re just that much better, alas.

They also have some Galaxy Tabs but generally at a higher price point. My perception is like BJ said, Apple is hard to beat on tablets. But I also don’t have a single Apple product myself, so I totally get that.

I have a samsung tablet and it does 90% of what a laptop does, if you have a mouse and keyboard.

Does she need the form factor of a tablet? If not, Chromebook might be another good option and they tend to be $300-400.

My review is from 2019? But based on also seeing classmates do it starting 2015. I use a microsoft surface with the clippy keyboard as my computer. I now start it less often than we start the tablets of a similar vintage and it performs better for admin stuff. It isn’t kid proof (maybe with another case).

Price was way less than comparable Apple stuff and performance was better than office chromebooks purchased at a similar time.

I was thinking something that would be easy to have in her purse to take back and forth. Hmm… some thinking to do…

Any suggestions for comfy 2x-3x workout clothes?

I also need another workout bra but good for size I. I don’t want to spend 5 minutes wrangling myself into a high impact sports bra just to go on a nice stroll.

If they were loud and colorful even better.

REI brand goes up to 3X. I am an XL and have been happy with some wicking shirts and yoga leggings from their brand, though I know it doesn’t always translate as you go up in size. They’ve been making advertising noise at me about being more size inclusive.

My favorite sports bra (38G these days…) is the most basic stretchy Champion/(or whatever they call it these days) racerback bra from target. I don’t run much anymore and for walking, yoga, climbing, weights I don’t want any stiff straps digging in. But the elastic is strong enough to be supportive. After YEARS! For every day I have 3 Solace bras from Athleta that I also use for yoga and walking. I like the fabric and strappy design for being breathable, but the bottom band does tend to stretch out faster than I’d expect at the price point (but I do wear them every day and mercilessly machine wash them).

For leggings, I have long liked Marika brand for not giving me camel toe like eg Target leggings, but they don’t have a lot larger than XL. I also could not find plain black leggings on sale for a while. My bougie SIL turned me on to Athleta, and a friend gifted me my first Vuoris and now I am hooked  I have gotten some on ThredUp and REI Resupply (used gear), though.

Glamorise sports bras go up to size J, not sure if that’s for all styles. I’ve been pretty happy with them but not raving best ever levels of good.

Talk to me about generators. Anyone do one of those whole house ones? How about the jackeries?

Would rather not do a gas powered one due to fears of fire and dying.

My parents installed a natural gas powered one two years ago, and they love it, but it has caused their power to stay on for all but an hour and a half of those two years!

I gather it was a pain to install, but a big part of that is that my then-78-year-old dad did everything but the mandatory natural gas company inspection himself. It still cost a lot of money, but it’ll be worth it for them. My mother’s rheumatoid arthritis means she absolutely can’t handle the cold (they’re on ground source heat pump from a spring on the property), and this just kicks on automatically and runs everything in the house.

My uncle has a whole house Generac generator, I’m told it runs on natural gas (his model, there’s other types from that company too) so he never has to worry about fueling it up. He and my aunt loves it, they host their kids’ families when hurricanes roll through.

Question from someone not in hurricane country: is natural gas ok for a generator because the pipes are underground and won’t be impacted by flooding? I’m surprised with everything else so messed up that natural gas lines are fine. Everyone I know with a generator has a gasoline powered one because we don’t have piped gas in my (parent’s) neck of the woods (in my neck of the suburbs we just haven’t had a power outage longer than 4 hours in the last 5 years).

For my parents, the issue is ice storms rather than hurricanes. They are too high on a mountainside for any flooding.

That’s my assumption. Flooding isn’t much of a concern where I’m at, but we lose power stupid easy with trees coming down.

I bought an EV for other reasons, but the one I bought has the ability to pull power out as well. I don’t have any way to feed it into the house yet, but it’ll be the same as a portable generator plugin. It would really only be able to run the fridge and some lights, no HVAC or anything, but that’s my main concern. I did use it + a portable cooktop the last power outage to do warm food cooking.

My friends have one of the little jackeries for camping etc and it’s great! It can run their DC fridge cooler on road trips for a pretty long time.

We have this too. Ours recently died so we have to replace it for a staggering cost which we are putting off, but when it’s operating it’s incredible. We put neighbors food in our freezer, and let the extended family come cool off.

Our house came with a Generac generator powered by natural gas. We’ve lived here for almost 15 years and have no problems with it. There are lots of mature trees in our area and it’s gotten it’s share of use. Highly recommend.

I’m envisioning a shirt. It has cartoon minimally drawn portraits of each of the previous presidents and then Kamala at the end. Anyone see anything along these lines?
