I got it in 3 guesses again. Apparently I play on hard mode without turning it on? I never throw away a guess by not using a letter I know 
I always want my guess to have a chance of being right. I’ve never gotten one in 2 guesses, but I’ve had 3 guesses more often than any other.

I often throw away a guess, because I need to clear more letters. I’ve got it in 3 a few times when I threw away #2.

Originally I was sort of accidentally playing in hard mode. More recently I have started to do guesses that can’t be right but clear up a lot of letters.

Here’s where I struggle with hard mode: once I have common letters in a common combination, there are not enough places to try different letters. I’ve lost a lot of challenges in the archives this way. I’m not even playing on real hard mode, I just don’t realize how many possibilities there are in time to try a different approach.

yes I often have trouble finding ANY words that will fit a given pattern, let alone seeing a bunch of possibilities.
But the ones I solve in the fewest guesses are where I try to make words that include the letters I know so far.
