So far nothing super weird? Like yes that therapy video recorded in secret was super weird but i guess if a group of consenting adults wanna get together and and have a weirdo role playing orgy it’s not my business…

Welcome to eastern Oregon. Idk if most people realize but Oregon’s history is ALARMINGLY racist. Like, Oregon gets lumped in with the north on race issues? But until like the 1940s Oregon handled it by just making being black in Oregon illegal? Heck there were a lot of “sundowner towns” whose laws didn’t change on the books until the 70s and 80s.

Portland is a blue city in a vast (size wise, not population wise) red ocean.

So absolutely race played a role in all that.

I am very glad to hear that people from OR own this (well the non racist ones anyway lol). I was super surprised when my husband described rural oregon as a place where white supremacy and anti govt sentiments mixed freely because I always thought of hippie portland as representative of OR!

Okay so there’s the religion and state stuff.

That makes sense.

But like… how did Mormonism skate by then?

Oregon has the vital context of the urban rural divide that is a massive issue. It’s part of why I’m such a messed up person internally too, I think. I’ve had 1 foot in rural Oregon and 1 foot in urban liberalism my whole life, with my very class and education split family. It’s a very very weird experience. The racist historical context also really helps you understand why there’s so little diversity in Oregon.
