Who got their FLU SHOT?

I love you aussies are keeping this thread alive year round

Not sure on the refrigeration. I’ve always been overly cautious about that, trying to keep it either in ice packs or a fridge as much as possible when traveling. The syringes are prefilled so no more having to draw it up yourself.

A lady I work with has just sent an email to my whole team (a bit over 30 people) telling us not to get the flu shot and includes a bit of a rant about Bill Gates. I am unsure why she thought this was appropriate

Report her to HR? That seems out of line in a workplace :grimacing:

I am considering it. Though one of the guys said he already had, so not too sure if I should as well. I will need to ask who he reported it to.

Bump to this thread! Northern hemisphere friends, the flu shot is available most places now! Get it EARLY this year. A- you don’t want flu, duh. B- we don’t want to overburden the health care system. C- there will be shortages. More people will likely be getting the shot AND there may be less production this year!

We’re headed to CVS soon to get ours. I called and at least at our location, they don’t need appointments or anything this year. Just forehead temp check, masks required, and health and covid exposure questions.

Thank you for the advice! Would CVS have kid shots too (five year old)? We have an insurance issue right now, we got switched to one his pediatrician doesn’t take but I love his pediatrician and don’t want to switch.

Edit: just called the store, they said +18

Nope, generally all the pediatric shots have to be done by their PCP I believe.

Good to know. My PCP is doing drive-thru blood draws; bet they’ll do flu as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I just messaged my doctor’s office to see what their procedures are this year, since their associated urgent care that usually runs a flu clinic is a little bit not-generally-open at the moment.

Throwing some good news in, flu shots + social distancing have done wonderful and clearly measurable things to our rates of influenza in Australia.

Wow, already? :flushed:

I know the immunity wears off after a while, is there the possibility of needing a second shot if you get the flu shot early and cold & flu season goes long?

@Elle, you are up. I’m waiting for your PSA about when it’s possible to get a flu shot administered by the unbelievably hot pharmacist. Please include store address and hours.

Beginning caveat that I am in no way an expert on this, and will gladly defer to anyone who knows more than me:
I believe that yes, that’s a possibility. But a well vaccinated population could follow Australia’s example, and if we have a really mild year and low transmission, it would be way less of a risk. But I do know a lot of healthcare providers do an early and a later vaccine. Also, there’s a larger dose version for 65 years+, I don’t know if that’s for immune response changes or if it effects duration of effect.

So you’re saying the super attractive pharmacist could put it in me twice. :kissing_heart::kissing_heart:

I have seen a video on the internet that indicates this is common practice.

Some of our experts have cautioned that our high rate of early vaccination may result in a surge later this year, as the vaccine could wear off. Their point seems to be more along the lines of “don’t become complacent with higher risk people” rather than “it’s a huge risk for everyone”, from what I’ve gathered.

I forgot him! It’s the shopper’s drugmart at 2225 Erin Mills parkway (I worked customer service in that mall as a teen).

I doubt we have flu shots available yet

You are absolutely wonderful, you know.

Ha! And yeah, TBH, I’m getting my flu shot at work because it’s totally the path of least resistance.

But if you end up getting your flu shot there this year I would like a full report.

I just saw a “FREE flu shots!” sign outside my local Safeway, so I suppose that’s always an option if my doctor’s office somehow doesn’t pan out.

I read Safeway as Speedway, a gas station chain. “Pump gas, get shot”. Tired eyes, tired brain!
