Today I Learned

Jokes aside this is a serious problem with any novel therapies. We have a LOT of stuff that works on a cellular level and is very promising in labs. With no way to get it to the site of action in the body. That stage is the death knell of many, many a novel cancer therapy. (GDogg you probably already knew this!!)

Absolutely! Lots of things work in Petri dish or test tube, but are not effective in the whole complex biology and physiology. Makes you wonder how many effective compounds are eliminated in the first screens because they aren’t effective (enough) in vitro.

huh, I didn’t know that either. Looks like it was melted down.

““Three of the defendants belong to a family here in Berlin that is publicly known for committing crimes, but me as a spokesperson, I’m always very careful because of course belonging to one family and carrying a family name doesn’t make you guilty,” Jani said.”

The Mazda6 Sedan Is Designed to Attract Spiders, Apparently

There are specific models and years of Mazdas that attracted a particular type of spider so much they had to issue recalls because of fires.

“ Mazda’s comments on the reasons for the Mazda6’s popularity with spiders have been minimal. But as The Verge reports, one Mazda representative’s answer to the question was the following: “Don’t ask me, I’m terrified of the damn things.”

Tell me the ottoman empire didn’t have a mosquito problem without telling me the ottoman empire didn’t have a mosquito problem.

Edit: nevermind. TIL that the ottoman empire had a huge problem with malaria and undertook enormous public works projects to drains swamps at the turn of the 20th century.

The puddle is small. We have a rule that standing water must evaluate within 72 hours, which this may well have (or it may have been disturbed enough to not have mosquitos)

Ottoman Empire was also huge (at times) and very long lasting though. So where and when is still a big question. Miasma theory for malaria lasted a looooong time.
