Tiny Victories

I’m finally getting the Christmas stuff put away and I’ve got 2 bins of nice stuff to give to the thrift store. I don’t have the same entry and staircase that I had back in 2004, which is the last year that most of these items were used.

If you want to do the best thing for the store, put it away for now and drop it off in October. They usually don’t have room to store seasonal items and I don’t know what they do with them!

And they are just flooded with Christmas stuff right now.

Unless you have a store like Vinny’s that has sales of specific categories, which they do store up. There’s a video game sale coming up, at which I will buy some new t-shirts for the kids. There’s a yarn sale in the summer. They do have a Christmas stuff sale in the fall.

That’s a good idea to wait. I absolutely have the space to store, which is why they’ve been on basement shelves unused for over 20 years. The hard part was sorting through.

If the stores are flooded now I should probably go out and do some looking. Our dogs have broken many ornaments over the years. I used to have a very high ceiling and would get a tree at least 12 ft high since it looked out of proportion otherwise (the mantle was 6 ft high). So once we moved to a home with more typical ceiling heights and started getting smaller trees I had an excess of ornaments. But no more, sigh.

The thrifts have largely moved Christmas stuff out to wherever they send their Christmas stuff. Goodwill always has a little shelf. I bet tye bin store is piled high now.

Here, the Christmas stuff comes out around the end of October.

I walked over to a “community organizer fair” down the street from my house, chiefly to sign a petition to get a progressive candidate on the ballot to try and unseat Sen. Scalise who is an enormous jackass. They were giving out free covid/flu A and B home tests. Those things are expensive! Yay free!

(We only have covid tests in the house and since flu is higher than covid here, it’s probably a good idea to have these on hand. Sigh)

My boss who is kind of obsessed with cleanliness nodded with approval when she happened across me Clorox wiping the handrails in the staff stairway. (We have 2 FT custodians but the staff handrails do not, to be diplomatic, appear to be a priority.)

i left my house today in the cold and snow to make crafts with my friends (everyone wants a picnic blanket flower frog now :hugs:) and normally i would not do that but it was lovely fun and i am glad i went and now i can lie on a heating pad for a few hours before dinner.

I just learned today that they have flu/COVID tests over the counter! (TC I learned this at urgent care which will have a mush higher bill for the same test + Pedialyte Popsicles and a dose of Tylenol they gave my kid )

I remembered to get the sheets in the dryer! I woke up all ambitious this morning and stripped the bed. We only have ONE set of flannel, so they tend to be on the bed most of the winter…

Big piece of work came through the queue today and I’m assigned. I pointed it out to my supe and said something like, “I’ll probably be on this all day” but he updated the pre-rec work for it so it’s not in the queue now. Hope it doesn’t come back til I’m gone! ha

I thought my medical school interview season was over, and then out of nowhere I just received a T5 interview. A literal dream school. I don’t even know what to think! I thought my app there was just a $100 donation :sob:

Fingers crossed you get this! Would you have to move?

Yes, to California. It would be a huge move, and everything would have to really fall in place for it to make sense. Especially because of the $$$. But I’m keeping an open mind!

I think any medical school would be lucky to have you!

I’ve decided to de-plastic our food storage. At the thrift store today I found a bunch of lidless glass Snapware. I can throw away some of the plastic Snapware and keep the lids! (Plastic lids are OK, I just want glass containers.)
