Tiny Victories

My chili needed a punch. I ordered 10 Frank’s type hot sauce dipping sauces instead of one when we ordered pizza. It was not a mistake. It was prepping for this moment

You’re prescient. I’m impressed, but not surprised

Baked hamburger buns - this is a massive success because SO is picky, and eats cheeseburgers every day at home (let’s not start on this). I finally found a recipe he likes so this will save $$ on buying buns at the store. This has taken YEARS of work. I will post my picture from my phone after. And I’m currently baking a poppy seed cake because I loved them as a kid and haven’t had it in a really long time.

I seem to often end up with round rolls rather than buns, even when I think I’ve rolled and flattened the dough too much!

Ordered a grinder for the dog’s nails forever ago, tried it and it was Work so did not keep up with it and continued to pay for grooming.

Now that grooming is closed I got it out and dog is suffering my ministrations only slightly worse than at the groomers. I have betrayed her but I also provide ham.

So I learned some tricks with this recipe - not squishing the dough all down, but gently depressing it into a roll after rising; and weighing them to be consistent. But I’m very pleased with them.

Your SO is living my dream life. I really need to organise delicious homemade cheeseburgers.

We go to a butcher and he orders 3 boxes at a time. He eats like a 12 year old. 2 Cheese burgers for lunch every day (or could be twice a day if I’m not home), chicken nuggets or chicken burgers if it’s raining. He only eats mashed potatoes and cucumber with sour cream. No vegetables. It’s challenging cooking for 2 different meals. I can only do 1 burger a week, maybe. He is a meat and potatoes eater and won’t try anything new. Needless to say, going to fancy places is always with friends because he won’t eat anything.

More Boyfriend’s victory than mine, but it’s something positive to come out of all this so I’m sharing it. Boyfriend has struggled very hard with his weight for years. He has now been home for 5 weeks - WFH for two of those weeks and laid off for the rest - and 10 lbs has just fallen off of him without him trying or consciously restricting calories. He’s definitely eating less, and eating healthier, but he says it feels natural to him.

Even with less physical activity going on. He does go for walks most days when weather permits but that’s still less activity than one gets during an average city public transport commute, and obviously he hasn’t been able to go to the gym like he was 2 or 3x a week.

He attributes this to not being in that office any more and thus not coping with stress by slamming several cokes every morning, eating fast food lunches daily, eating crap out of the vending machine all day, and being constantly surrounded by treats that his co-workers brought in, it was one of those workplaces where there was just constantly food around.

I’m really proud of him! It also shows me that I was right, that job was harming him.

I know that you guys are worried about income, but I’m so, so happy that Boyfriend is no longer working a job that was harming him so much.

One of my good friends absolutely crushed their dissertation defense today, and now I’m just bouncing with excitement
(and I totally will not be able to focus on work for another hour lol)

My first post!
It is raining steadily here in my corner of the world so I have put every single indoor plant outside to catch the lovely rainwater. And I am marvelling at how many plants I’ve managed to keep alive.

I love using rainwater to keep my indoor plants happy.

You and your plants are welcome! What a good idea, sticking them in the rain!

My books were placed on my porch last night and we forgot to bring them in (I’ve been going in through the basement when I return from work so I can put my clothes straight in the laundry). The box they were in and the paper on top seem slightly damp, but the books were covered in a plastic bag and are fine!

We got a tiny avocado for the baby to try some batons. It was perfectly ripe, and she loved it.
