Not a fancy $5 coffee shop one! (And it’s not espresso haha.)
Took a watch I’ve had for ages to get the battery replaced, now it feels like I have a new watch!
I went to an open house close by, a huge old expensive house that I’d always assumed would be super fancy inside. First of all, it is indeed huge. Almost 6000 square feet spread out over 5 (!!) floors— main floor, top floor, attic conversion, and then half-basement and small actual basement. It has so many floors because it’s on a hill. But the kitchen was tiny and weird for the space, the bathrooms all seemed like low-cost remodels done 20-30 years ago, and the windows felt like they’d be super drafty. And the view isn’t that great, mostly looking down on the roofs of houses below. And imagine if kids were down in the basement (which is currently used as a play room)— it would literally be 4 floors from the beds up in the attic! I kept the brochure that the realtor made though, because it’s really impressive.
All this to say that I love going to open houses and feeling like our house is a million times better
I made a pretty good approximation of misir wat (Ethiopian spicy red lentils) despite only having some of the required spices - turns out that as long as you’ve got berbere it’ll be OK - and cutting corners on the recipe - no, I will NOT be simmering spices in butter for 90 minutes before I even start cooking the actual dish, thankyouverymuch.
Our lease is up in a month so we were given a new one to sign and our rent’s only going up by 20 bucks. They haven’t raised our rent since we moved in in 2017 (! that is unheard of here!) so I was expecting a big hike, especially since there are some major repairs planned once the weather turns (roof, ugh). This could have been much worse!
Went to the grocery store and asked where the croissants were, since I couldn’t find them. They were out of the full-sized croissants, and the lady was so apologetic about it she offered me a box of 12 slightly smaller croissants for free! I guess I had a “desperate for croissants” look about me
I was thinking about suggesting a Ethiopian cooking club thread for March if anyone was interested…
(I just got the book Teff Love from the library.)
I just remembered that I start my 8-4:30 schedule tomorrow Monday when I’ve been working 8-5! Very excited.
This is very intriguing!
Bad roommate has found a new place and is leaving.
Took a walk because it was 50 out. ABOVE zero! We encountered Girl Scouts. Now I have Thin Mints.
YES GOOD
AND, I planned to get free Fancy Coffee with my Starbux gift card while on our walk, except the one by us was closed for renovations. Went to Colectivo instead and discovered I had enough reward points for a free drink there! I had a cherry almond white chocolate latte and it was glorious. And FREE.
Who will do this now?
I took my baby on a train, to the aquarium, and to dinner!
Also, pilot took me all those places. And I wore jeggings and black boots like a civilized human not a postpartum mess
I can’t even imagine how this would taste, but I do want to find out.
I’m at work, I’m not crying, and I have even got some work done already this morning.
That response was the perfect tony victor.
It’s only -10 so I left my coat at home and am wearing a hoodie and t shirt.
The capacity for acclimatization is excellent evolutionary strategy. Well done, humans.
Also lately my internal temperature regulation has improved. The last few years it has been awful but somehow it improved. Well done, body!
