Where I am it usually heralds the change of a weather system-- a thunderstorm caused by a cold front moving in brings with it that same-said cold front as the rain abates.
But not always.

I guess that’s probably true here as well, it’s just that in the summertime, a cold front is associated with a drop in temperature to 85 or 90° while having 1000% humidity. 
(True confession: it’s only 90° out there right now, but that’s because it’s cloudy.)

It’s late(ish) July. That’s not bad for the middle of the day.
I have an itchy bug bite. Notable only because it’s my first since moving to Portland. Back in Queens I’d be getting attacked nonstop.

Things that might help: hydrocortisone, hot spoon trick (if mosquito), or aloe gel with lidocaine (can’t itch if it’s numb!)

Thanks! I don’t know what it was, but it’s stopped itching. I might bring Benadryl cream to the park with me tonight just in case.
Lol @tnt. One tip I remember for decorating cookies is to use a firmer icing to draw the outline first. Then you can flood the center with the loose icing and it’ll level itself out and fill in the cracks.

Plantain. If you’re not proud, you can make a “poultice” in the field by chewing the leaves up a little bit and then slapping the resultant goo on the offending spot. Works great here because plantain grows everywhere .

It was 98°F out when I left work today which is a disgustingly hot temperature and required the cancellation of mountain biking plans.

A house fly made babies in my house. I have killed more than ten flies I think? Mr. Meer has also killed quite a few. Thankfully they’re weakening so they’re easier to attack and they seem attracted to one window in particular so I was able to smoosh two at the same time yesterday.

Yesterday i woke up at 5.30 am because human brains suck.
The kids and I had an evening flight to Mexico City.
We arrived in Mexico at 10.30 last night. We got to customs and I realized that we had left the passports on the plane, which had just been emptied and moved to the airplane parking and left. So the kids and I couldn’t enter Mexico. We had to wait in the area where customs was interrogating potential drug smugglers and other suspicious types.
The kids napped on benches that smelled like smuggler farts and I stayed awake. I didn’t love it.
At 4.30 they finally checked the plane and our passports weren’t there. I ransacked our bags and found them at the bottom of a bag that I would swear we didn’t open on the plane. I don’t understand how they got there. So I was exhausted and felt like such a huge fucking idiot.
We pulled out my map to walk to the airbnb, which is a 10 minute walk from the airport. But there’s a major freeway between the airport and the airbnb, and the pedestrian overpass is closed for repairs.
In the end I paid way too much for a cabbie to drive for two minutes. We were totally ripped off and I’m actually fine with it. At least we got to go to bed.
The airbnb has three king sized beds in separate bedrooms. I collapsed in one and of course the kids climbed in with me. We have so much space! Go away! But they were exhausted and upset and we all needed comfort…
I’m awake after 3 hours of sleep. Today will be kept as simple as possible. Eat, go to the place we’re staying for the coming week, get some basic groceries. Coffee.
I’m so happy to be here and so tired I could cry

I really, really, really have to do laundry but to do laundry I have to walk up/down five flights of stairs to the building’s basement and there is an excessive heat warning and I don’t wanna!
