Tiny Complaints

Please spoiler painful looking photos!! Thank you!!

I bought a new wall calendar. It is for 2020. I REALLY don’t want to live the year over again! Thank goodness for free returns.

Our new throw blankets are shedding fuzz all over everything. I’ve washed and dried them twice (I even followed the label!) with no improvement. I have misplaced guilt over returning them since they will probably get thrown out by the store.

There are some disadvantages to keeping all my papers in a series of random piles around the house. I’m about to lose a medium amount of money because I can’t find a piece of paper that easily could have been filed appropriately and definitely wasn’t.

Will I learn from this?
No, I will not.

Sooooo, what happens when one is fully WFH and still on probation with their employer, and the power goes out so working isn’t possible?
Ice storm with power failures likely tomorrow and Wednesday according to the forecast. Boyfriend’s still on probation. Will he get fired if we lose power since he doesn’t qualify for PTO yet?

I hate it here. When do I get to move someplace warm?

But then you’ll lose power because of a hurricane! Also, there are ice storms surprisingly far south. My sister is in West Texas and they get more ice storms than Ohio which seems weird.

Can he use his phone as a hot spot for part of the day?

Also not looking forward to this storm…

He has a company issued desktop PC that has to be plugged in, so even with wifi, the computer won’t work with no power. :frowning:

Can he ask his boss/manager today what to do in the event of a power outage? I live in basically the same climate and my company has a policy on power outages because they do happen from time to time. If he doesn’t have his boss’s phone number/email written down or saved on his phone, it would be a good idea to do that today so he can call his boss if you do lose power.

His new company is a functional place that treats employees like human beings, right? I doubt they’d fire him over a power outage. It costs money to hire and train new people, so it would be in their interest to keep him around. I think they’d be more likely to make him take a day off without pay. They may even have a policy of still paying employees who miss work due to a power outage or similar circumstances.

I was going to say that they might expect him to go somewhere with wifi to work… then I realized that he can’t haul a desktop computer into the library or coffee shop even if that were a safe thing to do.
Sigh. He can’t materialize power where there is none. Hopefully they will be reasonable.

No. I cannot imagine any possible scenario where he would get fired just because you lost power during an ice storm.

It would be good if he reached out to his boss today and said, “Hey, the forecast calls for ice storms with power outages likely on Wednesday. What should I do if I lose power?” Chances are good that they already have a policy for this.

Almost every place I’ve ever worked has had a “if we close due to a power outage, we pay you for your regularly scheduled hours” policy. A couple may have had a “if we close due to a power outage, you don’t get paid for that time” policy.

The giant potted outdoor plants that were brought inside for winter are living in the space I want to relocate my work-from-home workspace to, a sunny Southern facing window. I like plants, whereas my husband loooovvvvveeessss plants. We will probably move them to a different spot, but I am going to feel bad if they don’t thrive. I need to prioritize my own thriving needs above the plants, however.

Yeah… he’s still technically in his probation period which may mean unpaid.
He won’t ask though because he doesn’t think we are going to lose power?? OK then!

I really do not want a winter storm. And we’re having another on Friday apparently. Hmph.

I did my giant monthly Costco and azure standard stock-up orders today and I forgot to get onions. We are all out of onions and probably 90% of my dinner recipes start with an onion.

 at least there’s still plenty of garlic…

Not sure this truly conveys the SIDEWAYS nature of this storm? Oof

In the before times a bunch of us from different departments were shooting the shit at work and someone made a Jurassic Park joke and then someone else riffed on it. One girl eventually said she didn’t get the reference. Turns out she’s about as old as the movie (1993). She’s a responsible adult now with her own apartment and a dog and it’s not like she’s a recent college grad. How?? How does time work like this?

My poor colleague had this moment a few years back when I mentioned that my parents were the same age as him (he had early teenager kids). He had a hard time getting his head around it!
