I hate how now every morning I have to check work email right away as soon as I get up to make sure no one has moved a meeting to before my start time without advance warning. Because people forget about time zones.
My ex-boss used to text me when this happened to give me a heads up, or else she would just attend and cover it herself. But now she’s not my boss any more, and my new boss is way too over his head to do that.
Boo. Can you just make your own meeting or something before your available time?
I leave at 4 and had someone get annoyed at me once because I couldn’t attend a same-day meeting at 4pm. Like, no dude, I have day care pick up. If you give me more warning I can make arrangements but that’s not happening today.
You mean so that I’m showing as unavailable? That would imply that anyone looks at availability before scheduling or rescheduling meetings. (This was a HUGE problem when I was going to therapy appointments over lunch; I was constantly getting meeting’ed despite being marked out of office, rescheduling therapy, and then getting meeting’ed again and the new therapy time).
What usually happens is that it’s a last minute reschedule of one of the daily standups that I’m required to attend, because of something like an all-hands meeting causing a conflict.
The fact that we now have all-hands meetings at least weekly, sometimes 2 in 1 week, is another issue.
Yeah… happens to me constantly too. Execs often schedule meetings at 6 am, but not until 8 pm the night before. And since I start and stop earlier in the day than most engineers, I constantly get requests for meetings like 2 hours after I’m done for the day.
98% of my patient base are zebras so I am very used to telling them to go to the emergency room. The other 2% are perfectly healthy and I don’t know why they pay me.
@JanetJackson I was just giving a list of if any of these happen, you need emergency treatment. I don’t think any of them will happen
I made dentist appointment for today because I had the afternoon off for another Dr appointment, and my tooth is still hurting from my filling 2 weeks ago. My appointment is during normal business hours of this practice. Today I was called and told I would need to cancel my appointment because they had a few other cancelations and the dentist didn’t want to work the rest of the day unless I could come much earlier. Like I can just change my entire day/schedule that quickly? I don’t understand. I totally get not wanting to have to work if you have cancellations, but I didn’t cause the cancellations, and my appointment is not even late in the day for a Dr office. The receptionist told me “well please get here quickly because the Dr is going to be sitting around waiting for you”
Yeah, I am all for work life balance, too! And if she had said “Is there any way you would be available to change your appointment time” vs. “we have to cancel your appointment unless you can come earlier” it would have come across a lot differently.
I have a bruise on my hand that is totally unexplained. It seems to have a bite in the middle of it. I don’t understand.
I STILL have not gotten a bill from the ER I went to in June. The doctor I went to for a headache told me I had to go to the ER immediatly, and when she called my usual ER she was concerned about the wait time for the CT, so she had me go to my non-preferred ER. They haven’t billed me. I’ve gotten an EOB for $150, but the two times I’ve called them asking where the bill is, they’ve told me it’s $8,000+ but they just haven’t sent it yet. WTF is going on?
