Tiny Complaints

Thanks.

I really hate today.

Today seems massively unfair to you. I hope it writes you a nice apology letter. :frowning:

Work snafu is combo the fault of myself and a co-worker, so really I just want to strangle our past selves.

Yeah, it’s just fine. I’ll keep it stabilized for a couple of days, rub it a bit, do some bending exercises, and avoid whatever expensive visit I’d have to deal with if I got it checked out. I mean, it hurts but I think it’ll be fine. I stove/jam my fingers a lot since I’m a clumsy person, but I have fully broken one, and this feels aaaaalmost as bad? We’ll see.

Hope you’re doing ok?

Correct.

OH NO
Do you think they spell it that way instead of “easy” so they can say “well we didn’t say it would be EASY… it says ‘ez’” ?

RLG, Pebbles and I were supposed to be on a plane today for a two week vacation to Italy. Instead I am at home, working from my basement and refreshing news sites. Sigh.

I mean… As OK as possible to I suppose? At the moment I’m thinking about the wine, not the hard liquor, so I think that’s a win.

If you have anything like Aspercreme, it’ll probably help that finger feel a lot better. And if you don’t, a homemade poultice of a little bit of oil and a lot of cayenne pepper works well for arthritic joints - that’s inflammation, so it would probably work for pain and swelling from bruising as well. But you have to be extremely careful not to rub your eyes!

Do you have castor oil? You can put castor oil on then wrap it. Or gently bandage it in gauze roll. Or use cool water dips or put on a cool wet glove. And yes rubbing, and rub the palm and wrist. But just lightly pet the finger like a tiny kitten.

You could drink things that are diuretic or antiinflammatories like nettle or green tea or celery or turmeric. Or take pills.

Bending in water might be nicer than bending outside water.

Seeing a doctor could be smart but it’s okay not to feel up to it… unless it goes surprise puffer fish, or a scary colour, or it sends red warning lines towards the heart.

Whoa. What’s this mean?

Streaks of red from your finger in the direction towards your heart. It’s a sign of infection.

Yeah not just any infection, but sepsis, which can kill very quickly. Only treatment is IV antibiotics.

Oh gosh

I would not worry about that just now – just file it away so that if you ever do notice red lines you know what to do.

While I think it’s good to know signs of unlikely worst case scenarios, internal infection is not common in a minor injury that does not have broken skin.

This is what I was trying to type, then saw you (an actual medical person) replying and figured I should wait.

I agree, and with all the dozens of times I’ve jammed and broken fingers, I’ve never once gotten any kind of infection.

Sometimes I forget other people aren’t on immunosuppressants and don’t need to go to hospital for just any sort of infection.
