I’m already tired of cold weather and we haven’t even had a hard freeze yet.
Washing machine is definitely not working
people who keep dogs outside to “guard their house” at night. In CO this was not a thing, because mountain lions will eat your dog. But here it seems like everyone has one or more dogs that live permanently outside, and bark 24/7. There is a lot of wildlife in my neighborhood, so it’s constant all night barking at every critter that walks by. I’m not sleeping…how are the people who own the dogs sleeping???
No noise ordinance?
I’m sure there is one. If there was a specific dog to complain about, it would be one thing…but there are probably at least 5-6 different dogs barking at night. I live in a quiet neighborhood with mostly older retired people, I’m really surprised that no one is complaining already…
Meet Rikki Tikki Tavi, the artist formerly known as the dog’s cat. She woke us in the middle of the night fighting a ~ two foot snake in my husband’s office. Cat was removed from the vicinity and checked for bites (negative), snake was captured and determined to be a rat snake
GOOOOOOOOOOOOD KITTY!!
With the caveat that she probably dragged it inside in the first place.
TC: just casually seeing news about freaking Hurricane Zeta. Like, WHAT. WTF 2020. It’s not even near the top of the news cycle that we’ve gone through all the hurricane names and then some.
Wikipedia says there’s Eta, Theta, and Iota left on the auxiliary list of names. Now I have a TC that they didn’t make the auxiliary list alphabetical also.
er … less good Kitty.
Well, you know. She was very unhappy to have her toy taken away. On the bright side, it was a rat snake, not a rattlesnake.
No snakes or cats were harmed, only human sleep, which was thoroughly disrupted.
Hahaha, I was wondering how a snake snuck into your house!
Seems to have been a juvenile – had the markings of a juvenile rat snake, and was only about 2 feet long. We actually hope she dragged it in here because the alternative is there’s a nest in here somewhere. That seems vanishingly unlikely, though.
The garter snakes (of which there are seemingly tons) around here are pretty “tame”, and not all that fast, and sometimes hang out in fairly conspicuous places, and I have no doubt that a reasonably motivated cat could catch one with no problem, so I am sure that’s the reason!
My ability to innovate is broken. Much to my employer’s chagrin, I’m sure.
3 more hours until my long weekend…
Or maybe just saved you! Good kitty
Àaaaaah no yuck yuck
No more as yet today. I think we had a one-off occurrence, but we’re talking to Miss Kitty about keeping her toys outside.
Anonymized version of a conversation that has repeated almost verbatim three times today with a new(ish, they’ve been around for a couple weeks now) coworker who’s been brought in to help spread our workload and give the junior engineers someone else to take their questions to. Yes, the number of question marks and exclamation points increase the longer a conversation goes on.
New Coworker: Critical bug! Thing1 has the wrong interface to connect to Thing2!!!
Me: It’s fine, remember we’ve got a lot of things coming externally for this project. Look at the spec and pull in gasket A, B, or C to handle the conversions.
NC: So you’re saying that gasket A will solve the problem???
Me: No, I’m saying look at the spec and use gasket A, B, or C depending on which one has the interface to match Thing1.
NC: So it’s guaranteed that gasket B will take care of it???
Me: No, you have to look at the spec. If the signals match gasket B, then use gasket B. If they match A or C, use A or C.
NC: So it’s C???
Me (after some swearing that only Cat1 can hear): Do you have the spec? Great. Open it and the gasket specs I sent you to the interface sections and then share your screen.
There’s a skull/wall emoji that’s getting a lot of use between me and the other lead they were brought in to help, especially since they tend to ask one of us something and then turn around and ask the other the exact same question. No idea if they’re taking a vote or trying to make it a test or what, but believe it or not this isn’t taking anything off either of our plates.
On the other hand, most of the junior engineers are up to speed enough that their questions are now generally related to things that legit aren’t spec’d out, so that’s nice.
I did two dramatic haircuts today. One I dislike, but will love in a week. mine I’m just uncertain
