Tiny Complaints

I was going to complain about the amount of cats and hearing about the CEO’s tv/movie/book recommendations in the meeting I just had to sit through that was supposed to be a State Of The Company, but your meeting is way, way worse. They were partly killing time to allow questions to be sent in, but the ratio of actual content to fluff was not great.

I’m writing today off altogether. Called in sick, just now got out of bed (I’m usually up two hours ago) and I’m trying to make myself make breakfast.

Upside: anything I do today is a tiny victory.

No shock to anyone, but people tend to be very absolutist in their views, especially on parenting. While I tend to thrive on shades of grey.

Aka I’m annoyed by people on Facebook. You ask a simple question…

I just had to flush my 20 year old daughter’s dead betta fish for her. She fails at adulting today.

Well, I am a little bit older than her (ahem), and I still scream like a little girl if I see a mouse.

We get Hoth April every year. Last year it snowed a ton on April 30, FFS. Practically May.

I’m more than twice her age and I still do not do dead. Boyfriend does dead. Thank god he can do dead, because BIG NOPE.

I was going to say “do we work for the same company” except the cats were in our team meeting and not in the all-hands (where we’re not allowed to have cameras on because bandwidth. Which is fine because I hate cameras.)

I live in one of the most tropical parts of canada and odds are equal for a humidex or snow for my may birthday, but it does not concern me. Only Aussies and incorrect people buy and plant plants before Victoria day.

My own tiny complaint is that I want to go home. And I also want to not feel and smell like a mix of pee, yogurt, milk, and hormone sweat. I get one wish in a few hours and the other wish midday tomorrow or middle of the night

The USB ports at the back of my (very old, hand-me-down, I paid $50 total for the monitor, the loaded-with-Adobe-design-software mac, and the printer which ultimately died) monitor do not work any more.

This doesn’t matter for work, I can plug everything into the ports on my work laptop. And the actual monitor screen functions.

But today I need to do photoshop work on photos for my Etsy shop, so I’m using my personal big honking metal mac G5 tower which lives on the floor because my desk is a literal antique and would collapse under its weight. The USB ports on it are near the floor. So to plug the keyboard in, I have to have the keyboard resting on my lap and sit awkwardly so the cord will reach the ports. And the mouse then has to plug into the keyboard’s USB port and rest on the desk with the mouse cord piled into my lap as well because there’s really nowhere else for it to go.

I am sure there is a technological solution for all of this (wireless keyboard and mouse come to mind) but that does not help me RIGHT NOW when I want to photoshop these photos so I can list items. I am annoyed.

Do you have a cutting board or a clipboard that you could put the keyboard on, to make it rest a little flatter/easier? I know that keyboard directly on lap is rough for me in terms of it moving around.

Googled Victoria Day - that’s May 18. If I waited until then, I definitely couldn’t grow spinach, radishes, or potatoes because of the heat. And I might only get in one crop of a lot of things that normally give me two a year. I think your place is too cold.

Even here in southern WI basically my entire garden is planted by then. Technically we can get a frost until end of May but it’s quite rare in my specific location because of being closish to Lake Michigan and the “heat island” effect of the city all around me.

I waited too long and my shoes in my virtual cart have now sold out. Oh well.

Our guide is usually mother’s day, which was May 12 last year, but we got a frost around the 17th last year. It sucked. So much plant death. So. Much.

Ick. My first radishes will be ready to harvest next week.

I still foolishly attempt to put in cold-tolerant stuff as early as March. It… sometimes works?

Have you ever looked at the Dave’s Garden last frost date utility? It gives you the average, 90th percentile, and earliest/latest historical frost dates for the closest weather station to your house. For me the closest station is only about a mile away. That’s when I realized I could plant much earlier than Memorial Day, which is often the conventional advice here. But I always look at the 10 day forecast come May 5-10th or so and decide how risky it looks.
