Tiny Complaints

A friend just got a bullshit diagnosis that will nix any chance of getting her actual issues treated or investigated

I called up to schedule the annual furnace check, and it was a chatbot on the other line. If they are going to use a chatbot, why can’t I just schedule through the website instead of needing to call? and why did it only divulge that it was a bot at the end of the call instead of having a real person name at the beginning?

also, on the website you of course need to tick that you are a RealPerson™

The paint I paid $62 for on Monday is no longer on sale and was $95 today.

I have made 5 outgoing customer service calls so far today to 3 different organizations

  • call 1, the chatbot as noted above
  • call 2, following up on a call the shadowy one made on Wednesday which was a follow up to an email I sent last Friday asking for confirmation it was ok because it didn’t quite follow what they had asked for. The Wednesday person said that they’d follow up and they didn’t, but that we probably were ok with what was sent on Friday and nothing additional was required. Today’s person seemed more competent, but also said I needed to send a new document after all. please note that this org says they will cancel our service with them and we won’t be able to get it back if we don’t have the right documents on file by Tuesday.
  • call 3, asking another company for changes to that document so that I could send it to the folks above. They said no trouble, would send in 5 minutes
  • call 4, called back to the folks from call 3 because no file was sent. Got a 2nd person, they apologized, and said they’d send it right away. At this point I got a call on the other line, I assume from the folks from call 1 who were using the chatbot to tell me a tech is in transit, so I got off call 4 quickly. But not quickly enough to get the missed call. Received the email, and it’s still the wrong information.
  • call 5, called back the company from call 3 & 4, got the rep from call 3. she said she will send the corrected doc in 5 minutes. it has been 10

no idea if missed call was anything important. given the prevalence of scam calls with spoofed numbers, not calling them back. they didn’t leave a message

eta: the new doc arrived in 20 minutes, the person from call 4 had left their desk and held my file open, so the other rep couldn’t make the adjustments as it was locked. The new doc had a typo, but luckily as I was writing the ‘please send again without typo’, a new email came through with it corrected.

I wish I drank

20% ‘fuel surcharge’ thanks to someone’s stupid war was not disclosed during scheduling. that is a great way to have me take them off the list for consideration to replace the furnace

I need to spend some money.

  1. Have woken up with a sore back the last couple nights (couple==since I got back from my trip)…the mattress is out of rotations so I’m afraid it’s time I bite the bullet and buy a new one. And if I’m doing it for mine, I should probably replace the one in the guest bedroom too since it’s the one I originally swapped for mine.
  2. One of the heating elements in my oven caught fire at the start of the summer. It was well-contained, the house was/is fine, etc., but while I don’t normally use the oven in summer so I wasn’t too worried about a replacement at the time, it’s now September and I need to deal with it.
  3. My dishwasher is older than I am and terrifying to the point I just don’t use it…this one isn’t actually a need, but as long as I’m pulling other things out of my kitchen it seems like I should either remove it and put in cabinets I can actually use or remove it and put in a new one (and maybe actually use it on occasion).
  4. ETA–and the cats hate the original automated litterbox I got so I need to remove it and either try another one or accept that I’m stuck with manual litterboxes.

Yikes! I assume you are a young teen; that would be bad enough

I had to turn the furnace on because it was 12 degrees in my house.

TOO SOON!

At TJ’s last night we got a full on interrogation from the cashier about why we were wearing masks. This doesn’t happen to us often at all, suprisingly, but it does come up now and then, this is the South.

I chose to blandly respond, “my friend who works for a doctor’s office told me we are in a covid surge and we don’t want to catch it.”

Then she said, “so you don’t believe in the vaccine?”

Puzzled, I responded, “oh, we have gotten all of our shots!”

Then she asked me if the new one was out. I said yes, got it last week. She said, “cool, I need to go get that.”

???

I mean, sure, I guess there are people who are pro vax but anti mask but I never really considered that and I was so confused.

Also: just please ring me up ma’am, OMG. I feel self conscious enough these days since folks don’t mask here any more hardly at all.

She might not be anti-mask, she just thinks if you got the shot you don’t need the mask. Which is obviously not how that works, you can have multiple layers of risk reduction. But yeah she’s not great at cashier small talk.

I mean, Boyfriend and I were both masked and vaxxed when we got covid! Nothing is a guarantee!

Also there were many coughing children in the store soooo

And yeah, none of my friends mask any more, ever, but all are vaxxed.

Sometimes I literally think the cashiers at TJs are contractually obligated to keep talking regardless of what comes out of their mouths.

The other day a cashier asked me (after looking at my ID) “how does it feel to be 35?” That was hilarious. Tell me you’re 25 without telling me you’re 25

One time back in Chicago I was at TJ’s and among my purchases were pizza crust, a can of artichoke hearts, and a bag of frozen shrimp.

The cashier said, “so you’re making shrimp and artichoke pizza?”

WUT no that’s disgusting!

That’s really funny. If I was a TJs cashier I’d make up random food combos to ask people about too

I think they must be trained to be chatty. They always comment on one thing that we’re buying and then one more general thing, and then dh can’t resist getting into a conversation and then I’m going “We’re going to miss the bus!”

They need to offer a no chat line as an option.

The furniture movers gouged my freshly painted walls. It will need filling sanding and paint.
