Tiny Complaints

A coworker tested positive today and just told me that two more aren’t feeling well. They may close the office. Whoops.

Yesterday a tenant texted me that there was an emergency and I had to come right away. I asked what was happening and an hour later she told me it was a problem with the washer and dryer.

I asked if it was both of them at the same time?

An hour later she said it was just the washer

I asked what the problem is

She said there was a water leak

I asked where the water was leaking from and she sent me pictures of every part of the machine. None showed leaking.

I asked again

Apparently a hose. (the washer is right over the basement floor drain so a leak isn’t serious)

I asked when I can come

Two hours later she sent a text that was intended for someone else.

This morning I’ve texted asking when I can come. Three hours and no response.

The Emergency!!! Come right now!!! thing got old a couple of years ago. One day there will be a real emergency but so far nope.

Meanwhile I don’t text my super at all unless the heat or hot water’s been out for at least an hour because I’m afraid of bothering him for no reason :sob:

I want to know when things go wrong, but starting with an emergency message is not the way.

This person has a pretty severe cognitive impairment so I don’t expect the situation to ever improve, but the initial heart attack I have from what is presented as a crisis is not my favourite.

Hence the tiny complaint.

Power just went out for my entire city and it’s 25 degrees F outside. Estimated time of restoring power is 1:15 pm.

Also our furnace is natural gas, and theoretically our thermostat has battery backup, but it’s not turning on. F.

Shit.

Spouse recently bought a solar powered generator - 2 portable solar panels unfold. Not sure it works yet.

Today is an in-office day, and it is 59F in here.

I mean… No

Unfortunately, it’s a bit more nuanced.

The heat broke before Christmas. I used it as an excuse to not go in during the kids Christmas vacation.

Technically, I need to be ‘in office’ two days a week - but in any Regional office.

Ie, if I complain too hard they will tell me to go work at Headquarters, and… We haaaaatessss it. It’s too peopley up there.

So I packed an electric blanket and warm socks and a touqe, and wore a hoodie that I wouldn’t normally wear to the office. I should have brought skinny gloves too - my fingers got cold, otherwise I would have been ok.

We lease the building and the landlord keeps saying that the part they need will be delivered ‘tomorrow’ and then it will be fixed. ‘tomorrow’ was two weeks ago. From what I hear real estate and legal have sent a Strongly Worded Letter.

The facilities guy stops in whenever he’s passing by to see if we’ve popped any breakers with our space heaters. Apparently he was called three times Monday morning, so now it’s just a part of his rounds.

We need to bring him cookies.

Cat ended up having emergency surgery today. Bye bye lots of dollars. But I’m happy she is fine and the surgery saved her.

Cat being ok is what those dollars are for.

Poor kitty! I am sure you are all stressed out. When does she get to come home?

Oh no! I’m glad she’s going to be okay.

She is already home, we picked her up tonight. She had pyometra and basically had a hysterectomy. The vet actually showed us what he took out and explained it all. He showed us a part that was almost ready to rupture. Anyways, she is home and hanging out all doped up.

And yes, @Smacky that is exactly what $$ is for, and no stress over it. We are very lucky.

TC: smacky is not an accepted word in squardelle.

I am glad your sweet baby is home and is zoned out on pain meds. So glad you caught this early enough for good treatment.

wrt squardle I noticed that too!

I am glad cat is home safe.

as I told the shadowy one when they were concerned about the dentist cost today, the reason I’m careful about money so much of the time is so we don’t need to worry about money on days like this.

final tally was $350 for unexpected dental work.

tv - they knocked off 50 because we don’t have insurance
tv - the dentist cleaned up a few stains for free (pitting from poorly done teen braces) because it offended him to leave them there when he was doing the other work
