The Unf*ck It Thread

We’ve done about 15 different reno projects in the last week, and had parents visiting, so every room in the house is fucked.

The linen closet was out of control.

I intend to put some hooks in the bottom for that stuff but it’s a lot better.

I shredded a small pile of paperwork. Soon I shall collect another small pile of paper to shred.

At risk of being too gross

I banished the eldritch horror from my kitchen pipes

The smell, my friends, the smell… :flushed: :skull_and_crossbones:

:scream: how did you do this???

The fat parts of the pipe above can be unscrewed by hand to remove the U shaped section. My sink also has 2 parts above that can easily be removed the same way. Once it’s off you… Clean it, that part is pretty straightforward. Use something disposable to scrub and obv don’t run kitchen water while it’s like this. Then reassemble without overtightening.

I also used to do this as a teenager to clean hair clogs out of bathroom sinks, which were very prone to stopping up in that residence. Same idea, but required a wrench. My dad had a knee issue and my mom had a back problem at the time, so they asked me to contort under the sinks.

I learned from my industrial company job that sometimes those sections of pipe are P-shaped and therefore colloquially known as p-traps lol.

For anyone considering it, the smell is usually like something died in a swamp. I do not recommend it. It is a heroic undertaking.

Mostly wondered if you had like, poured anything down there to loosen stuff up first? I wish I could do this to my tub.

I did a bunch of baking soda, vinegar, boiling water 2 weeks ago, it helped a little, temporarily. I also did BS+V after to get the unscrubbable bits. I’m not sure it drains much better, but it smells better…

For tub, have you snaked the drain with a tool? The $3 version is a stick with prongs, the $20 version is like a metal spring. Both will effectively get hair from the first 2ft of pipe AFAIK (I only have the cheap one). Then, get a tub shroom

Yep, we have the stick with prongs. Maybe I should try out the $20 version? And we already have a tub shroom! I love that thing lol. Can’t go back in time and tell the last tenants to use one though :frowning:

Oh past tenants! fist shake

Yeah, maybe worth a professional snaking? Honestly the LL should cover this if it’s backing up with normal use.

Dropped off four books at a buy back bookstore and stopped by the post office to get rid of like 12 clothing pieces with ThredUp

Thank you! I’ve been binning and tagging everything in my house lately. Did I show you my freezer?

Okay, where are you getting the bins. I have bin envy.

The ones in the freezer and the pantry are plastic and from Dollar Tree.

The ones in the linen closet are… canvas? I think I ordered them from WalMart. Yep. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Urban-Shop-Linen-Storage-Bins-Set-of-3/319164216

I loves me some Dollar Tree. May need to go before the October budget challenge . . . though I gave myself a shopping out since all the holiday shopping needs to get done to allow for supply chain/shipping nightmares.

There’s no hope for my linens as we have many years of dogs-have-their-own-bed buildup from thrift stores (then when they tear them the linens become a fabric stash). I’m okay with that.
