the real housewives of figure skating ⛸ (drama + grace)

I wonder if smaller doses of three similar PEDs (two allowed under WADA) might have the same effect as a full pill, but be more likely to avoid detection. Anyone who’s a doctor/biologist/pharmacist want chime in?

The problem with those optics is that RUSADA doesn’t care about how the US public perceives USADA, and USADA did not make this decision.

I’m not going to watch any more figure skating at the Olympics. I’m just too angry to enjoy it.

It’s so upsetting

But CAS was involved, so it wasn’t entirely RUSADA at this point.

They were making the decision on RUSADA‘s Suspension. Rusada has jurisdiction.

The OIC and the ISU both asked for her to be suspended. CAS simply upheld RUSADA‘s decision based on their reasoning and that they had jurisdiction.

On a lighter note -

This is mean girls but the doping scandal version

That was truly painful. The worst I’ve ever seen Kamila Valieva skate, in juniors or seniors. While Trusova and Shcherbakova had the skate of their lives, as did Kaori Sakamoto.

The court of arbitration said not allowing her to skate in the olympics would cause “irreparable” harm to her mental health, but now it’s also clear that having her skate under these conditions has also caused severe harm to her. The decision was made in no small part, I think, because the masses wanted to enjoy the spectacle of the best skater in the world performing in the olympics. I saw an opinion piece in the Washington Post that went, “There is no substance, none, that accounts for her artistry, the impression that she is borne aloft by God’s own strings, except inspiration.” Some pretty language, but terribly icky.

As other people have said, there’s no way Valieva’s the only one doping. They sacrificed a 15-year-old, yet another “once in a generation” talent, to win their third gold medal in a row. And this happened in front of all of our eyes. Painful.

It was not clear why Trusova was melting down at the end. Was it her concern for what happened to her teammate? Johnny Weir seemed to think she was upset that she’d landed 5 quads and got the olympic silver instead of gold.

I’m seeing a lot of people saying Valieva was made to throw it.

I also do not believe for a second that all three of these girls aren’t doping; the other’s masking agents are just working better. Their coach is evil.

Also, I think Weir is right about Trusova- how the eff do you do 5 quads and not get a gold? (Yeah, yeah- other things are scored; but seriously.) I cannot imagine she would have a fit like that in the KnC over a teammate.

That was the worst thing I’ve ever watched.

She was melting down about not getting gold after landing 5 quads. She was screaming at Eteri that “she knew everything, i hate you, i’m never skating again” and was refusing to go onto the ice for the podium.

Here’s the thing. Anna was still the winner. Sasha doesn’t even try for artistry - she just does crossovers between her jumps. It’s just a jump show. The result was fair, even if both anna and sasha should’ve had 10 pts lower for PCS

The outburst was a result of trauma. The trauma of an abusive training system.

Also she’s sharing a room with anna. Awkward.

This is what broke my heart. All alone, was looking for someone to hug. Sasha screaming and crying, Kaori sobbing, Anna looks like she’s waiting for a bus instead of just won an OGM.

We have to raise the age. We have to raise the age.

Katarina Witt started crying on-air as a German TV commentator after the sh*tshow were watching.

That opinion piece was whack. And also not from someone who ever writes about or follows figure skating, so great.

I cannot believe I woke up at 3:30AM to watch this olympic ladies free skate funeral

This is so sad.
All three of these girls are literal children. And the adult in charge failed them miserably.

Sasha’s “and you knew everything” is so damning…
I feel so bad for Anna too. Her medal, if it was fairly earned (I don’t believe Eteri didn’t dope them all), is so tainted.

There was also that gross article from the NYT glorifying quads (read the room!!!), written by the same person who did a puff piece on a gymnastics coach that got banned for 8 years for abuse and another piece on Simone Biles’s new vault with blatantly incorrect info.

I couldn’t watch the free skate live, partly because I needed sleep and partly because it was going to be such a mess. Sounds even worse than I was expecting and I’m not sure I want to watch it at all.

It was possibly the worst thing I’ve ever seen on live television. Like. everyone was crying (except the OGM, sitting by herself). The cameras were glued to Kamila having a breakdown in the kiss and cry instead of showing the gold medalist (meanwhile Eteri was not comforting her, just told her “I expected better from you” and "You gave up/stopped fighting after the first axel. Why? Explain to me why”). THey then followed her around sobbing, while in the background Sasha was screaming/crying “I won’t see it! I can’t see it!”

reporters to Anna: what would you like to tell Sasha?

Anna: i would do it in private, but we haven’t really seen each other yet.

reporter: were you surprised by her reaction?

Anna: i feel emotionally empty inside, nor insanely happy for myself, nor any emotions for others.

From a translator on reddit:

Kamilla was told by a person hugging her: “Kamilla, this is not your loss. This is not your loss. The whole world is against you but you will continue to skate. I am not telling you this just for the sake of it. I mean it. You will show everyone what you can do.” She is told: “There is literally nowhere down you can go from here” and Kamilla laughed while crying.
