Yesterday I had a little while of FearHope that my spotting was implantation bleeding but today it feels more like a period. Oh well, SOMETHING happened, I have meds and supplements and a plan and somewhere, a referral to RE (still crickets…?)
Not mutually exclusive! Without running the actual numbers, my gut instinct is that travel + turkey baste would be the cheapest, until we tried it 1-2 times, and then it would start to break even. That might be a good route: try X, see if it works 1-3 times, and if not switch to Y.
Also, for my question, a reasonable person might be asking… what does the donor want to do? In general, he’s been really flexible, so I’d want to go to him with a plan and ask him to OK it or not. He does have a flexible work situation, so from what I know it would be in the realm of possible to do last-minute travel.
So I didn’t respond to your last post about $400 a pop, but it was hilarious to us. We came home from the beach, a recipient (still helping families who have kids from his sperm, he’s traveling less and one family at a time)… anyway the recipient texts that she’s ovulating a few days ahead of schedule and she can change her hotel if he can do it. So we do that. Coming in from the car a bag of beach stuff breaks all over the driveway, I pick it up, our kid poops allll over the living room. We flush it and break the toilet. We get him to bed and give up on the toilet. We help the recipient come up with a plan b since she forgot the soft cups at home. (Children’s medicine syringe 10cc from the pharmacy).
He drives to the closest motel, swaps places with them, fills a syringe and come home where I show him the thing about $400 and his eyes bulge. Then he realizes it’s clinic fees and chills. He’s taken gas money and flights but thinks anything else is unethical.
So… anyway. From my perspective and knowing these other people’s perspectives…I’d chart and opk stick to get a sense of timing, and then I’d either fly out or fly the donor out and turkey baster it for a prediscussed number of cycles (mine was 3). If that doesn’t work if add in the doctor. Anecdotally, even with “proven” donors and recipients (both have procreated but not together). It sometimes seems like if it doesn’t work a certain number of times, a different donor will work.
Anyway, for me, the numbers don’t make it worth going to the doctor if it can be avoided, especially since being relaxed can be so beneficial.
Also when he was single, G liked the adventure of driving 3 hours and exploring a random small town, or flying somewhere. With a kid and a pandemic he’s more into staying home
This all makes a lot of sense, THANKS! I like the idea of suggesting a prediscussed # of cycles, and should start opk sticking.
OK truly what a bonkers series of events, alls well that ends well.
And, yes, you’re right - clinic fees! I had the thought that it was unclear and I should edit, and then I got distracted by something.
I made an appointment for a restart call with our RE.
in two weeks. Ironic timing since that’ll be CD1 and 6 failed cycles I imagine.
TMI Menses
Yeah, OK, definitely a period then. Cramps like a mofo and bloated like a water balloon but laughable flow. Not sure if better than my teenage years or not even fair.

AAAAA
So… It turns out acetaminophen works. Crazy, hmm?
Well, Not pregnancy. At least that at home fertility test won’t go to waste.
Finally got to talk to the money lady! It does look like embryo donation will be more economical than egg donation. (That was actually our initial preference and we only considered egg if we had better insurance coverage for it.) Hopefully we can get the ball rolling soon! We have to meet with a social worker before we can see the database. It’s really small–usually 10-40 profiles–but we are a middle-to-small sized, medium-coloring white family with a variety of tastes and education levels, so we’re not exactly looking for a unicorn.
Then we have some blood tests and a mock transfer. But since we probably can’t transfer until October, we should have plenty of time!
What is a mock transfer, out of pure curiosity?
They do a transfer but without the embryo, just with a bubble they can see on the screen, and then they know how deep to put the catheter- that way if they hit the wall of the uterus, they’re not disrupting the lining and possibly dislodging the embryo in the wrong spot if they tried to wing it. Basically you get your uterus height
Most things in life go better with a dress rehearsal! I was just wondering what could be rehearsed here (meds/hormone levels?) Your answer clears that up! I didn’t think about the “hardware”.
Yep, it’s weirdly fast. Speculum, goo, ultrasound wand, whoop goes the catheter. Done! Admittedly mine didn’t have any weird complications? But the hysteroscopy was like 20x longer. We did them back to back. I was in and out of many rooms that day, and many speculums were in and out of me
I think that’s in the dictionary as an example under “unpleasant”
Don’t ask me why my family now has “warm twanding” as an inside joke.
Bleh, so second cycle of tracking ovulation and I seem to be getting my period at 11 DPO. Though I guess it could be 12 because I didn’t test the day before I got my peak and so that could have been actually a dip before the peak. But anyway I’m not stoked because if I remember correctly, an 11 day luteal phase (or 10 day because it’s almost kind of the evening of 10 dpo?) Is noooot great.
How far out are you from BC removal and what kind? That commonly causes a shorter LP but then goes back to normal on its own.
Removal in 4 months, copper IUD, which I thought didn’t affect cycle length?
I’ve heard varying reports on the copper, I’m not sure.
Other things that can affect it include illness around ovulation, stress, weight changes. Oh! I just remembered you’ve had some dietary changes because of your GI pains right? So I wouldn’t discount something like that. Keep an eye for sure. But for one- above 9 days CAN be sufficient, especially if you have good egg quality, and it’s totally possible it’s just transient.
There’s also a joke in the TTC community ive seen that you won’t have an anovulatory cycle until you start tracking lol. Murphy’s law of body trolling.
