The Not Pregnant...Yet Thread

I relate so hard to this statement

Either way, yay for ovulation and a reset!

OPK analysis

Ok, so last month I took 2 OPKs (successfully after 2 confused fuckups). The first was on CD 15 with a dye-stealing positive, the second an obvious drop in LH.

This month, I’ve been doing them almost daily since my period ended, I had a peak on CD 14 (though I missed testing CD 13 because frantic cleaning) with an obvious drop today on CD 15.

So that’s pretty promising to see that I get pretty consistent positive LH tests at a pretty consistent and normal day of my cycle. As long as my period keeps waiting long enough to have an appreciable luteal phase I will hopefully be all right?

Thing I’ve been pondering for a bit - I’ve tried to do temping before but kinda stopped because my husband has fucking bat ears and hates being woken up and a thermometer can be smothered under the blankets between my thighs and the only way I will know it’s done is HE will sit bolt upright going “WHATS BEEPING”.

What if I made a beepless bbt thermometer? Like one that instead of beeping vibrated slightly on finishing or just blinked, maybe depending on the setting from a switch? If I’m willing to sacrifice one of my thermometers, I could probably make a prototype.

It sounds like you may not need to if you have a consistent cycle, but if it sounds like a fun project, why not? Also, you don’t strictly have to make it vibrate, just do an experiment to time (count) how long it takes to finish, and then break the beeper. Old mercury thermometers had no beepers, but they worked!

ETA upside of this “problem” hopefully he will wake up to baby crying

All the “smart” wearable thermometers are silent

What kinds of movement do you all do during your TWW? I have heard that abdominal twists should be avoided so my usual yoga feels risky but prenatal seems like jumping the gun. Running is usually pretty intense for me if I get into it. Walking doesn’t seem like enough though, and I got home late yesterday. So instead I do nothing, because clearly this is better

I have no helpful advice, since we’re not trying trying yet, but did Google TWW and kind of love both options.

Abdominal twists during the TWW are fine according to my physiotherapist - it’s not like making a bunch of eggs for IVF where you would want to avoid twists.

I don’t avoid any kind of physical exercise during the TWW. I never heard of about not doing abdominal twists in fact I did a bunch on Sunday :grimacing:

Yeah you only need to worry if you’re on stims that give you grapefruit size ovaries- then there’s a risk of ovarian torsion. It’s possible a SUPER hard workout creating a ton of inflammation could interfere with implantation, but it seems unlikely in practice unless you’re doing a lot of marathons and hot yoga.

Closed abdominal twists are contraindicated later in pregnancy because of discomfort and theoretical compression of the vena ?cava. Neither of those is usually an issue in the 2ww. But as one first tri ultrasound tech told me, if it’s in your head like that, you can avoid it to avoid feeling guilty about things that weren’t your fault.

If you wanted to, you can swap most yoga twists for open twists or just not do any.

Lmao thank you for saving me a google. I will always think of the second option now!

I’m working in the office with my window open, and my wife and I were just texting with our potential sperm donor about some financial logistics. She came in to my office and shouted, “We have to pay $400 every time he ejaculates?!” Sorry to the next door neighbor who is working in his yard.

I FINALLY have a meeting with the financial counselor to get a better cost comparison on egg donor vs embryo donation.

I’m… not that sure which one I want. Sigh. They both have advantages and disadvantages.

Wanted to plug over here that @wooljaguar posted an update on her journal, and she’s taking a forum hiatus.

Talked to our fertility doctor this morning, and we are weighing some options! Do you all have any recommendations of how to proceed?

@Elle I know you are deep in this world so wanted to bat signal you in particular if you have time + opinions.

Context: For people who don’t know me here, my wife and I are two cis women. The plan is that we’ll use a known sperm donor, who is a friend of a friend. He and I have been sexually intimate, which is definitely the truth and not something we’re saying to get around the 6-month sperm quarantine. Assuming all goes well with his sperm quality test, STD test, + test for CF carrier status, which is getting processed now, we’ll start moving things forward. We’ll also work with a lawyer to get the legal paperwork done.

OK, so now that I’m getting into it, here are our options to TTC:

  • Fly our donor to Denver or fly ourselves to Boston for IUI with fresh sperm (pros: most likely to be successful; cons: travel timing will be a little unpredictable, since it’ll have to be timed to my cycle; would be very annoying if we have to do it a bunch of times; we’d have to find somewhere to do it in Boston)
  • Fly our donor to Denver or fly ourselves to Boston for turkey basting (pros: Going to the doctor stresses me out; cheaper if it takes quickly; I am a weirdo who feels like I should like, smell and see the donor and that that would help?!; cons: same as above, less effective)
  • Have our donor ship frozen sperm to Denver and get an IUI at my doctor’s office (pros: Best option if it takes me awhile to get knocked up; logistically easiest; cons: least effective)

I’m 33, was pregnant many many years ago but it did not result in a baby, and have kind of weird AMH results.

  • March 2021: AMH was 1.97
  • Fall 2019: AMH was 1.02

When I had my AMH measured in March 2021, I also had FSH and a few other things measured that were all in the normal range. They also did an ultrasound to check follicles, and they said it was more than they’d expect for an AMH of 1.02, but less than they’d expect for 1.97. I’ve had a 21-day cycle for a long time, but it’s been closer to 28 days for the last two cycles.

Any insights very welcome! I know these things are impossible to plan for, and my priority would be obtaining baby sooner even if it costs a little more.

Does one of these rule out the others? Could you plan a trip or 3 and if it doesn’t take do frozen? Or vice versa?

I know nothing. And not clear on cheapest/priciest. Generally if approaches are not exclusive I vote try easy/cheap and increase from there. Seems like all things you can try within a year?
