Wizard has Eucerin and I’ve used it on my feet - I think it might be too hardcore for my back.
I might give Cetaphil or CeraVe a whirl, especially since I can get those at the store on my block. Worst comes to worst I come skulking back to this thread in a month looking for really fancy body lotion…
Definitely lighter than eucerin, I would say comparable to jergens. Not watery per se, but not like a super thick cream. Very much a typical body lotion texture, on the ever so slightly thick end of that spectrum- it would be thin for a face cream.
It’s ever so slightly greasy right after like most of the natural lotions are, but I have zero sensory issues putting clothes on right after it- no weird clingy sticky weirdness. And I haven’t noticed any residue or anything.
What is your facial lotion? We can compare ingredient!! I like the unscented Cetaphil and CeraVe type solutions - I think at least one of those has carcinogens though, so not that one.
Does your back feel oily or dry? Do you condition your hair? Do you have other acne? Blackheads or big cysts?
I use an Olay sensitive skin moisturizer with SPF for my face in the morning, and Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream (i.e. a retinol) at night. Plain vegetable soap for washing face once a day plus body when I shower.
I do condition my hair. I used to get acne on my face a lot until my mid-20s, now I get occasional small zits and blackheads and a few bigger, deeper ones every year (always the same couple spots). My back always has a little bit of acne, usually small ones that ping my vanity but don’t hurt; every couple months I get a large one that really hurts. I don’t think my back is particularly oily or dry most of the time, though it’s oilier than my arms are, for example.
ETA: My facial skin got better once I stopped using an acne cleaner and started moisturizing, so I’m wondering a bit if that’s what my back needs, too.
Hmmm ingredients in the Olay vs the jergens are actually pretty similar. But the Olay has niacinamide which can clear you up, and the night retinol is also anti acne. So you’re actually using a moisturizing anti acne routine on your face instead of a drying routine!
Also, if you don’t already, try washing your back after you condition instead of before! I bet it would make a nice difference. Sometimes conditioner can get our back gross.
If you want to stick with drugstore brands, this one has ingredients you generally tolerate well, and no carniogens. St Ives Oatmeal & Shea Butter Body Lotion ingredients (Explained) it’s pretty light but moisturizes well. I need something more on my dry bits in winter, but my back would be happy with this. It’s super super affordable.
For a little more money I am a huge schill for everyone lotion and they should pay me…it has cones, as does the St. Ives and all the lotions you use, but they shouldn’t be the big problem.
If you wanted to, you could get a niacinamide or retinol from the ordinary and mix it with everyone lotion in your hand, that would clear you up fast. Personally I would add a few drops of tea tree oil tou lotion bottle if/when I was getting bacne. I’ve also been known to add argan oil or castor oil to a lighter lotion to get the richness I need.
If the problem doesn’t clear up with one or two tweaks, I’d switch to a pure oil for the body for a while. But I also enjoy playing chemistry with my skin.
That’s what I was coming to recommend. I hate the feeling of lotion on my skin and can tolerate this. It feels light and isn’t greasy but does moisturize nicely. It also smells nice and doesn’t give me a headache from the fragrance.
I used to deal with really bad bacne but I’ve found a few things that have really helped. You might already be doing this, but after I exercise even if I don’t have time to shower I immediately take off sweaty sports bra/shirt and change into something clean and dry. I also started doing what Elle suggested and washing my back last so my conditioner wasn’t sitting on my skin. I think those two things made the biggest difference…
I also used this Say Yes to Tomatoes body acne wash that actually seemed to help for a little while, that was when it was really bad. Now I just use an unscented Dr Bronners soap since it’s a lot better now. I don’t moisturize as much as I should, but I’ve had really good luck with the Cerave in the tub…it’s not greasy and doesn’t seem to cause any breakouts anywhere.
Has anyone used those foot peel things? The brand I’ve seen is baby feet but I’m sure they are others. They look a little weird, but my feet need help.
I just did it like a week ago (based on a recommendation from you a while back) and holy crap it works! I have really bad rough skin on my heels especially that it didn’t completely take care of so I am going to do it again shortly. I wish there was a way to spot treat because it’s really just my heels! But yeah, it works! I assume it is because it is basically a pretty strong (I assume) alpha hydroxy acid.
