I have also been wondering about this! :eyes: :ear:

I think I’m just gonna take one for the team and buy it

I’m late to the makeup question but I’m impressed by how little makeup those who participated own. I have so much makeup! I need to clean it out. I will try to remember to take a picture of the stuff I regularly use, at least.

I got a free MAC lipstick from Buy Nothing! Someone’s sister gets a makeup subscription and was offering up a bunch of stuff that she didn’t want

The color is You’re My Flame and in the bathroom lighting it actually looks like the perfect color for me. Not that I really get a chance to wear it if I have to mask, though!

I’m someone’s sister! I should do this with all my extra stuff.

I miss wearing lipstick/lipgloss. :frowning:

Not that people can see it when masked, but I’ve become SUPER into the korean “mask proof” fixing tints. Nice for (pre-omicron) situations where I might be taking a mask on and off like when going from inside > outside. I really like this one

generally korean makeup brands have more subtle colors than US ones, though, as a warning.

Is it drying? I’ve had that issue with lip stains before even though I love the idea.

I find this one to be kinda hydrating actually. The nice part about it being a stain, too, is that you can put chapstick over it after it dries.

Some of the “water” tints and “mousse” tints are now in the “fixing” formulas and those tend to be less drying. This one is quite creamy

Thanks! I love the colors too omg

Thanks, I will try them!

Since I’m ordering from this site, what else should I get? :smiling_imp: No, I don’t particularly need anything.

Halp!

I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost stuff for skin care. Easily available, doesn’t usually bother my ridiculously sensitive skin. I’m generally satisfied.
However
The daily moisturizer with SPF has that heavy sunscreen feel. I don’t know how else to describe it. I like moisturizer that goes on smooth, dries fast, I can’t feel ever again. This leaves a film on my skin. Is this just how SPF moisturizer works? Is there something else I should try? I would use it more often if I hated it less.

Also

I have patches of darker skin that have developed in recent years. I don’t love them. What works to get rid of them? I googled and was told to see a dermatologist, which I’m not going to do. Be my dermo, pretty please?

Good to know because I have a Neutrogena hydro boost night cream I like enough (although it feels overpriced) and was considering the spf but I’ll take it off my list.

Right now I use Cetaphil combination skin spf35 which feels like a regular moisturizer and not sunscreen. It goes on smooth. Buuuut it does leave me a little shiny on the forehead if I don’t wear makeup over it so I’m sure there’s something better I could find.

If the dark patches are Melasma I’ve read there’s very little you can do about it. I have it and hate it. Supposedly Hydroquinone works the best to fade it but it’s only available by prescription as far as I can tell. Also you have to use it regularly and forever or it comes back. Melasma is kind of a bitch. With that said, I’m using stuff from the ordinary that might be helping but I also wear makeup which helps cover it a bit, but I don’t think you do. Sorry for the bad news, maybe someone else knows more and I can learn too.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a lotion with SPF that’s not super expensive but doesn’t feel like sunblock? I am really trying to put sunscreen on my chest (and arms) when I wake up in the morning to avoid more sun damage. I don’t like the way sunblock feels enough to put it on all day every day, but I’m going through cheap SPF face lotion way too quickly to justify it.

ETA - there are definitely some lotions I hate the feel of just as much as sunblock (like Cetaphil), but I really like Aveeno and the Cerave I have.

If you’re fine with chemical sunscreen, Biore Watery Essence got the “doesn’t feel or smell like sunscreen” vote from someone I know who hates sunscreen that I recommended it to them, and now they wear it. It’s not so much a lotion as a sunscreen that you moisturize separately from.

My bestie got laser treatments for melasma. Expensive but they were worth it to her.

I got laser treatments, it came back. It’s lighter now, but still there but I’m also trying to treat it as much as I can to keep it from getting real dark again. My skin is really light so it shows up. The laser really worked well on my freckles which I also hated so it was worth it.

Yeah, she uses mega-strength physical sunscreen on the areas where she gets it, to make sure it comes back as slowly as possible. It does start to come back if she isn’t careful. It seems to be working because I haven’t noticed seeing it anytime recently.

I use asian sunscreen because i couldn’t handle how usa face sunscreens felt on my face, all of them get in my eyes and sting like mad. I haven’t found a perfect one, but have something that works. I mostly use Biore Aqua Rich Watery Gel that comes in a slightly larger container. It has a high alcohol content and is 0% moisturizing, but mostly feels like nothing after it dries. I’ve also liked Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream, which is more moisturizing, but also more prone to getting in my eyes, though it doesn’t sting as badly as others with aveobenzene(sp???).

Similarly, I have something that appears similar to what other people have said is melasma on my forehead, though mine is pretty faint and I’ve never asked a derm about it. I have noticed it was better/less visible when I was obsessive with my sunscreen + assorted skincare, and it’s gotten a bit worse since I started slacking on sunscreen every day and only apply products once a week or so.

Other ingredients that are supposed to help fade dark skin marks that I like in general:

  • Niacinamide (secretly in a lot of skincare but you might need 5% concentration for it to be effective)
  • Alpha hydroxy acids like glycolic acid or lactic acid (possibly just work through exfoliation, idk)
  • Vitamin C
  • retinoids
  • licorice root extract
  • probably some other ones, there are a few blogs I can link if you want

Thanks for taking the time to pass along that info. I re-read it in the drugstore moisturizer aisle and picked up some things that might work. Worth a shot!

I have Niacinimide and Vitamin C which I generally use daily, and a Glycolic acid toner that I use once a week or so. I also have a stronger AHA peel I probably use every couple of weeks. I do think they have helped, but I need to do better with sunscreen.
