OMG yes! You should def throw all of that away! Eye makeup should be tossed 6-12 months after opening.

Nonononono
If you use it you are asking for an eye infection!

Ideas for if you have something coming up and want to wear makeup

  1. schedule an appointment to get it done professionally
  2. ask us for affordable drugstore brands, write the date on the bottom and throw them out on time!

That’s like saying the yogurt cup you half ate and set back in the fridge for a week is still good :grimacing: bacteria man. It’s no joke.

Oh no! Sorry my post lead to you doing an unexpected makeup reset. It can be a bummer to let favorite shadows go.

i dunno, i feel like the risk for powder products is quite low? give it a spritz of alcohol like they do at sephora :woman_shrugging:t2:

i wouldnt screw around with old mascara, though. it’s wet and gloopy and too close to the eyeball.

I also figured, if I use it once a year, maybe the bacteria is dead??

But I think the texture may have changed too. They seemed less powdery than brick-like when I tried to get them out. Also, Stila doesn’t sell individual colors anymore! So I can’t even just get one replacement for the compact. Boo.

Well, I wouldn’t exactly say “favorite shadows”, more like “shadows in my possession” :joy:

I literally wear makeup like once a year. Marmalade actually doesn’t like it because he says it doesn’t look like me!

Powder makeup is less prone to bacteria than cream but yeah it also goes bad in other ways, like the performance is affected. The pigment can get uneven and the powder will be sort of brittle which makes it harder to get a good result. AFAIK Sephora still sells single color powder shadows!

I definitely stretch my powder products longer than you’re supposed to - but there’s stretching to 2-3 years, or almost 20 years. I am not going to suggest anyone use things on their eyes that old!

(Bought before a 2005 move, and it is now 2022). Even standards for what we consider safe in makeup will have changed a lot

For Stila brand? I don’t see them on the website even on the Stila site! I figured I’d pick one shadow and put it in the reusable compact. And maybe use it more often haha.

No, not Stila, the Sephora in-house brand. It’s cheaper but I think totally acceptable especially if you wear makeup rarely!

I wonder if it’ll fit magnetically in the Stila compact! I might have to just let go of it.

No it won’t fit, lol are you attached to the case? Here they are!

Haha I am bummed out that I bought a reusable case that’s no longer reusable! I hate to throw things out… (as you might have seen :joy:)

 at least you tried to buy reusable!

You made it last 13+ years, which sounds wildly sustainable to me.

Gonna keep it for the mirror, so I don’t have to throw it out

Sigh- I will listen to everyone here and go toss all my make up out (only a couple of mascaras and lip glosses). But exciting I can purchase fresh ones for future use!
