Thanks everyone! Happy to report it is blocking up to be about 7ft long and about 2ft wide which is more acceptable to me.

Here it is blocking in the daylight but the wrong side is facing up

As a novice knitter, I don’t understand 3/4 of these terms, so this sounds very fancy and intimidating Good luck!!

gah. cast off the second sleeve, and it is an inch shorter than the first sleeve. Not sure how I managed that since I was using my row counter, but it happened.

So I have ripped back to beginning of the shoulder cap shaping, and I’ll need to do those rows again, and guessing on where I’m at in the rows.

Which I guess means that I have more time to think about what to cast on next.

I’m an early intermediate knitter and had to look up “wtf is a turned hem exactly” for making this, so, you are so very not alone!

Lace with combined knitting is such a pita but I hate knitting through the front loop with a passion I cannot describe, so, combined knitting it is, and staring at this conversion chart a lot.

I am completely indifferent to purl type! I actually do both combined and reversed combined knitting (one of which does a Western purl and one of which does an Eastern purl) depending on if I’m knitting stockinette or in the round, and I’m pretty chill with both. Maybe it’s because I hold my yarn in the left hand? On the other hand, Western style knit stitches through the front loop make me murderous. Why the hell would I want to contort my wrist like that when I can… not contort my wrist?!

That’s interesting, I totally don’t feel like I contort my wrist when I do Western-style knits! But I definitely feel like I’m contorting my hands when I do Western-style purls (and I do hold my yarn in the left hand). I’m kind of delighted by the opposition of our preferences

I kind of want to see a video of each of us knitting now to see if we do things mechanically differently! I wonder if you hold your knitting at a different angle than I hold mine, hmmm. That might explain why we feel like our wrists move at different angles!

Did you crochet before you knitted? That’s definitely part of why I hold the yarn in the left hand – it feels so easy and natural to me.

… I think we talked about an OMD video crafting session at some point, didn’t we?

If we did a group Hangouts you could always do it by joining from a phone and angling the phone. Might not be worth it.

Mostly I think it’d be nice to see y’all’s faces and sit and make shit together.

We might very well hold our knitting differently! I recently saw a comic with a drawing of someone knitting, and I didn’t like it/think it was realistic, but in the comments someone had thanked the artist for drawing accurate knitting and the artist said that she learned to knit partly so she could draw it well, so obviously there are different ways to hold knitting.

I learned to both knit and crochet when I was pretty young, dropped both for a while, then picked up knitting again when I was in college… but I’m pretty sure I hold the yarn in my left hand because that’s how my mom does it and how she taught me.

A video craft group would be fun.

Not much for knitting, but would definitely be up for virtual crafts…have a new temari type to try on my bingo card that I haven’t gotten around to trying.
