I had to watch Ysolda’s brioche videos probably 5 times for the baby brioche hat I made, and it is the only brioche I’ve attempted. https://ysolda.com/blogs/journal/daniels-brioche-hat-a-free-pattern

But! I think I did better with the video than I would have done with a 3-4 person class, because in a class I feel required to keep up with everyone else, and I get frustrated with myself when I’m not understanding the teacher immediately. With a video, I can keep rewatching and rewinding.

This is so confusing, I thought you were talking about food

Not being a perfectionist about this gorgeous yarn from Helsinki - Louhittarenluola.fi - and finally casting it on as socks. It is pooling a bit, but I will give it another inch before I decide I need to use a different texture stitch.

I shouldn’t be allowed to make statements like that. I’ve ripped back 30 rows to the ribbing and restarted with a ribbed stripe down the side to go with the slipped stitches in the middle and give it more elasticity.

Alas, knitters of OMD I need help again. I’m working on this and I’ve just finished the front to where it says “K26” I’m making an XL so I K38.

Where it says “turn leave rem sts on a holder” does that mean the 38 I just knit or the ones I didn’t knit yet? I read the rest of the pattern and I don’t understand what then happens to the stitches on the holder so I’m unsure which go there

They mean that you had 84 stitches, and you worked 38. So you put the other 46 stitches on a holder (which could just be a piece of waste yarn).

I think you’ll work with those stitches when you get to the ‘Slip next 8sts onto a holder, work other side to match rev shapings.’ those 8 stitches are dealt with when you pick up for the neckband.

Ok that’s what I did the first time, but I tried to continue in the pattern but it was weird because you’re missing the yf that you need since you K all the stitches so I wasn’t sure what was right.

I feel like this pattern assumes I know way more than I do about basic construction of a garment like this.

I think that’s why they’ve written that you turn, which will move the yarn to the other side.

Basically, you should have finished all the arm scythe decreases, but you need to have the dip for your neck on one side. So you’re creating that curve, and then knitting until the front is as long as the back when you line up the arm hole decreases.

Then you need to do the curve on the other side. (and those 8 stitches are right at the centre of the neckband)

@Arohaknits on Instagram (Françoise) runs some free workshops a couple of times a year, and I’m working on her Initiate Knits Design workshop right now.

The goal is to design a cowl pattern.

If you’re planning on this being in fingering weight, I’d be happy to test knit.

I AM.

Oh I’m so thrilled, thank you! No idea when I’ll have a comprehensive pattern out together, but the design process is quite enjoyable.

My MIL is very generous to me.

A wool blend?

Smaller yarn + bigger needle = more drape, right?

But am I sacrificing cable/design definition for more drape?

This swatch is kicking my ass. And my hands. Tendinitis is through the roof with these tiny (US size 2) needles and I was a dodo and didn’t use stitch markers and I think I have to think back at least four rows (of 86 stitches).

I didn’t mean to start on hard mode, but this is hard mode.

Merino nylon. I had pointed her to sock blends so that if she just got me one, I could make socks - I didn’t want to suggest that she spend a lot of money.
