When our elderly cat had bladder issues it indicated kidney issues which were confirmed by blood work, it was fixed with prescription food. Bladder issues are ridiculous common for older cats. No idea about dogs, but it does sound like a vet question.

It sounds like submissive or excitement urination but most vets would rule out an underlying medical reason (like a low grade UTI) that could make him more likely to urinate when he’s excited but still maintain potty training otherwise.

There are definitely medications that can help with the behavioral side of things, along with some training modifications if there are triggers (like changing how people come in and greet him, if he always pees in that scenario). The training modifications aren’t a potty training issue, it’s more a minimize-the-situations-where-he-can’t-help-it issue.

New cubbies have opened up in the closet after hours of sorting and purging clothing. The cat is taking advantage of the exciting exploring opportunity.

Sweaty is working from home and sent this pic of a sunbeam snoozer (who is emotionally exhausted after rabies and lepto vaccines this morning).

That’s the weird thing. When he did it in front of the trainer she had been there for a while and was working with him. We were at the door (near his bells that he rings to go out) working on him 1) not jumping on people (aka the trainer) at the door and 2) self control when the door is open. So we’d been working for maybe 20-30 minutes when he did it. And none of us even noticed it at first because it was all on the tile and not in one big puddle. So that had me thinking maybe it was excitement in the sense that he knew this person was here for him and the focus was on him?

But yesterday I calmly went upstairs to work and said “B do you want to go upstairs?” and I moved the gate and he followed me up. None of us noticed that he’d even peed until I went to go back down the stairs a while later and saw the trail.

I don’t see a common trigger since he doesn’t do it every time we go upstairs, or every time someone comes in. My dad seems to be a trigger for him, but now we make sure he goes out as soon as my dad comes over, and my parents don’t come over that often. Other than that I’m baffled. I made a vet visit for him on Friday since he’s due for his 1 year visit anyway and they had first thing appointments so I could be more sure that the clinic was freshly sterilized.

Cat 2 has deigned to join the rest of us in the above-bed world (he is fairly excellent at social distancing)

Bird either gets a long walk OR bed access - i’m trying to keep her from doing a lot of jumping and a long walk in one day since she has a crap leg.
Could not figure out where she was a moment ago, apparently she has defeated me. :expressionless:
