Those are a couple of worried faces. Mama to the rescue!

As soon as I lay down, Whisper claims tummy space.

Gravity might give out at any moment, she’s just making certain you don’t suddenly float away.

She really is the most considerate of the two, Karma is more likely to wait until gravity gives up and then walk away.

Don’t be fooled; she’s cute, but she’s a butt.

Dog health is a complete fucking mystery. Yesterday I was judiciously feeding him 5 mL of water at a time from a syringe to try to keep him a little bit hydrated. He could hardly stand. Today, he comes and gets me and tells me to take him outside. He wanders around. He lifts his leg to pee. He bounces. He drinks from puddles. He digs a hole and then tries to eat the dirt. Usual dog stuff, in other words.

With swings like this I don’t know how we’ll ever know when it’s his time. I don’t want it to be his time, but I’ll be dammed if I’ll let him hurt unnecessarily. But how will we know?

I love her silly little under-chin.

This is such a difficult and personal decision to make.

I kept a checklist for Skittles (passed last October), and I’m glad I decided for her when I did. More folks regret waiting too long than letting go too early (knowing this helped me say goodbye when I did).

Yes, we’ve done that, letting it go too long. But today he feels good. In some ways I think it’s harder when the issue is strictly old age, which is the deal now.

ETA: we think he may have had a bug yesterday and maybe earlier in the week. There was some fever late yesterday, then finally a good night’s sleep last night, and today this.

Agree, it’s hard. This was it with Doggo too, more or less. I mostly had decided that when the bad days outnumbered the good, and had a few specific metrics. The last straw really was three bad days in a row, and I started feeling like I was being selfish by not wanting to let go. (My very first cat I feel like I waited too long, so that is always in my mind.) You are a good pet parent.

Oooh I should probably make a checklist.

Currently I feel like my dog is Benjamin Button, so hoping for a sudden and very obvious decline when it is his time is probably not going to happen.

Please rub the tummy and give me love as I am neglected (all lies as she gets human attention 20 hours a day)

Obviously someone’s really slacking in those other 4 hours

Lol her slaves need to sleep or leave the house to pay for her food on occasion.

I would happily be a tummy-rubbing slave since mine does not allow such things.

A cat that wants tummy rubs? Who doesn’t just use the tummy as bait for unsuspecting suckers?

I put my finger to the screen to do virtual scritches, does that help?

Yes! And she likes full hand rubs all the way from her chest to the full back legs! And sleeping with my hand curled up around her tummy.
