Sewing Thread

A sewing thread! I didn’t know this exists! But now I can be here because I (a tiny little bit) learned how to sew!

I need some projects. I want to make sure I don’t forget everything I learned in sewing camp. So far I have made a pillow, a pin cushion, a cup cozie and a small bag with a long strap (but lined, and with a pocket!) I wanted to learn to sew so I could make cute little clothes for my baby. But now she’s 13 and taller than me, so… I sort of missed the boat there. Any ideas for me?

My recommendation is “Megan Nielsen patterns”, she has several that she’s done a Mum & Kid version of so you & Daughter can make adorable matching outfits and they’re very straightforward patterns.

Ooooooh, I always did want to make something matching with her when she was little. Well, she’s not getting any littler!

You could makes matching (or themed**) masks for the two of you to get your feet wet. Since she’s 13, you’d better involve her in the planning.

**Like Batman and Robin or something

Masks are a good idea! Not too hard, probably, and useful and timely.

If you intend to do a lot of pleats you need one to prevent burned fingers/rulers/frustration.

Source: made a pleated evening gown and had lots of ouch.

I redid (for the 3rd time) my reinforcements for the neck slit on my 18th century shirt. This time I used embroidery thread and things worked much better including the needle lace.

Stage one: button hole stitches

Stage two: lace in progress

Done!!

The lace is so pretty! Of course one can do that with embroidery thread and needle. I think I’ve only really seen lace with knit/crochet/tatting. How lovely!

Felling down my seams. Should have the shirt complete in a day or two. :crossed_fingers::+1:

That is a damn good shirt.

I really should have checked this side seam alternation on my linen tank before reinforcing it. Basting with a running stitch would have been much smarter than back stitching. Because two rows of fairly tight backstitch is a pain to rip out.

Have I just spent ~3 hours altering a linen tank top? Yes. And do I still have at least another hour now that I’ve figured out the side darts? Yes.
