At least most of my disappearing foods are seasonal. I cannot wait for pumpkin everything, again. The pumpkin butter sells out so fast!

Oh, speaking of discontinued foods, RIP lemon gingersnap ice cream. I looked for it yesterday even though they haven’t carried that in years.

One of the TJs fan accounts (yes I’m in one lol) showed a sign from their store manager saying fall items would start to be put out Sep 9th. Mark your calendars :joy:

when I was visiting Vancouver BC I found a pumpkin yogurt from one of the higher end local brands. It was delicious, but I’ve never found it again. Not sure if the seasonal versions never make it over, or if they don’t make it any more. But I still look each year.

Have to share in case it helps someone here. The best $8.99 I spend every month is on this recipe service. It has done so many great things for my relationship, cooking skill, and palate. Signed up when grad school was looming and I knew there was no way I’d have the mental bandwidth to meal plan. Fiancé is great at cooking from a recipe but horrible at ideating. Using this service, we eat way more vegetables/homecooked meals, order out way less, and don’t get bored with the same recipes in rotation all the time. It kind of puts meal planning and food shopping on autopilot. We’ve got access to archives from nearly 2 years of membership at this point, if we ever feel like swapping something out. Obviously less frugal than grocery shopping based on sales and things like that, but worth it to me.

Has anyone tried making muffins or quick bread with no added sugar, just fruit? It seems like it would work but I’ve never seen a recipe without sugar. @druidessie?

There’s not much functional reason quick breads need sugar, not like cookies, for example. So it’s really just a matter of taste.

Yep, lots of toddler muffin recipes use applesauce or overripe bananas. Here’s one we really like. We freeze them- https://www.healthylittlefoodies.com/fruity-oat-breakfast-bites/

There are ones that use flour I’ve seen, too.

Oh wow, I’m totally going to make those. Perfect, thank you both!

If you want to freeze, I recommend freezing first in a single layer before you let them all touch, it’s a lot easier to pull one at a time out that way. They’re great for easy baby breakfasts especially.

I planted pineapple ground cherries this year and they are PROLIFIC (also I have about 10 gallons of tomatillos that I don’t know what to do with…)

I’m going to try to make ground cherry jam, but does anyone have suggestions for OTHER things to do with ground cherries or tomatillos?

I have never heard of pineapple ground cherries. They sure sound interesting!

I love so many things at TJs. I have loved their Tarte d’Alsace for many years and now my daughter loves it too. Which is always a win because she’s pretty picky and has no appetite. But she’ll eat that! The dark chocolate peanut butter cups are too good. I always stock up on the Calabrese salami because other stores often don’t carry that particular kind. They have things like Genoa or hard salmi (yuck!) but I want the Calabrese! My kids love all the mochis and we all love the Powerberries. I recently found these onion chips there that are so delicious. They are not onion-flavored potato chips, they are super-thinly sliced onions that are fried so crispy they are chips. We all fight over those! I think I mostly listed snacks but TJs does snacks super well! I always buy cheese there, and olive oil and their chopped garlic and stock up on wine because of good quality and prices. But mostly I love TJs for their snacks and treats!

I just remembered their Belgian Chocolate Pudding. If you want decadence, grab one of those! Oh, and my daughter’s favorite, their chocolate croissants in the frozen department. You have to remember to put them out the night before so they can rise but in the morning you pop them in the oven and are rewarded with big, flaky, warm, soft chocolate croissants at home! It’s the best.

Can salsa verde!!!:drooling_face: wish I had time this year. Oregon state university’s extension service has a great recipe for canning that I use.

Oh, thanks! My husband really wants to make salsa this year, so a tried and true recipe is great

Last year (with a 4 and 1.5 year old) our garden mostly went to waste. I preserved basically nothing. This year, our 2.5 year old won’t kill herself falling off of a chair or anything (knock on wood), and our 5 year old is really good at making sure she doesn’t do things she’s not allowed to, haha, so I’m already ahead of last year’s game.

Right now our 2.5 year old is napping, our 5 year old is playing outside naked digging for worms, my husband is digging post holes for our new chicken fence, and I’m making ground cherry salsa, haha.

I like virgin mojitos and bloody mary’s a lot. I also like mango juice + seltzer + coconut water. Cucumber water with mint is good too.

Some food pics from lately!

Big pics

Veggie Nachos!

Tofu Bahn Mi (homemade rolls and homemade mayo!) plus bonus cat.

One more bc pretty.

Sausage lasagna. FUN FACT: you do not have to boil store bought lasagna noodles before baking lasagna. The “oven ready” ones are a ripoff and lie. They are all oven ready! Just make sure there’s a bit of liquid and they’ll cook while it’s baking.

Cheese fries! I love my air fryer.

Wings and homemade ranch and pasta salad.

The end.
