I would be editing on a Windows machine.
Usually it’s easy to transfer videos via USB depending on the phone OS you’re using
I forgot that Partner has made a few videos in the past and has a low-end microphone I can borrow, too.
She suggested Open Broadcast System as a software (free, opensource) so i’ll look into that, too.
ETA: That appears to be more for capturing and recording screen content, so nevermind.
VSDC has a decent free option, although I’ve generally just used it for grabbing clips and setting them to music for reunion and milestone-type celebrations…I know the guy at work who recommended it to me seemed to think it was pretty flexible, and he’s a lot more into video editing than I am.
My library teaches classes on Resolve and I’m sure we’re not the only ones (Adobe licenses for computer labs are YIKES) so you may be able to find virtual classes now that libraries are doing online programs/classes. I’m trained on Adobe Premiere and so there are definitely differences in the way it’s set up but I was really impressed with it.
How does one tell the materials on a piece of jewelry? Meaning the stone, metal type, etc?
*I am one of those people who like to put a pair of earrings in and never take them out. I’ve had these current thrift store earrings in for probably six months. No ear rot, no weird smell, no tarnish to the post or stone. Trying to figure out what they might be so that I can perhaps find another set someday. *
My guess? Silver & pearl?
@JanetJackson If it’s silver or better there will usually be a tiny stamp near the clasp or inside the band. On earrings it is sometimes on the back of the setting but some earrings don’t have them and it often wears away. Also, on many earrings the actual earring setting is a different material than the post, is that the case with yours?
Gemstones are more of an eyeball for a pretty good guess if you know about jewelry and then take to a jeweler for confirmation scenario. It’s quite hard for most people to tell a genuine pearl from an artificial pearl, and while telling a cultured from a natural can be easier there are very good faux natural pearls these days. It’s also a misnomer that faux gemstones weren’t used back in the day, they were very common. Even really high end antique diamond rings will often feature faux side stones (emeralds and sapphires usually).
If there is no tarnish at all after long wear I think it’s likely that the post is surgical steel or silver. It’s possible that it’s some type of vermeil if it’s yellow in color, but that’s mostly silver anyway. If the setting and post are all the same material there’s a possibility that the whole thing is white or yellow gold, or platinum, but that’s less frequently the case than a silver setting and a surgical steel or silver post.
If you want to post a picture I can make some more guesses. I’m not an expert expert but I did sell fine jewelry for a while as did my dad, so I grew up around lots of sparklies hanging around the counter
Fact: I’m currently wearing 90 year old artificial sapphires!

One of my favorite pastimes as a child was going through my grandmother’s jewelry box and sorting the real vs faux pieces.
How does one buy an e book for a friend without supporting amazon or another malevolent force? Is there an online equivalent of a neighbourhood bookstore?
My local bookstore (just turned co-op! Whoop!) uses this site:
I haven’t used it yet, but I do love my local bookstore.
I was hoping for a source for e-books. Any leads?
Ooh. I found a list that could be promising:
Some authors and publishers sell their e-books direct. There’s also Barnes and Noble. Big corp but not as massive as Amazon.
Check out https://www.indiebound.org/ebooks. They have links to indie bookstores that partner with Libro.fm, Kobo, and Hummingbird for ebooks and audiobooks.
You are wonderful and I love your face.
Thank you!
I have been so excited to find a pair of earrings that I can basically wear 24/7 without my ears turning into green mush.
I will post a picture later today, thank you so much for your help!
Looking at lovely jewelry is a real hardship, but I’ll do it…for the good of OMD!
Who is still using cash? I have cash in the mattress for emergencies, as well as foreign currency for travel. But since the pandemic I don’t think I have used it once. Now I’m wondering if the mattress stash should go in the bank? And will people be accepting currency by the time I travel again? I’m sure they will, but…what are people’s thoughts?
Not sure what you’re wearing but this sounds like my style in terms of how often I change earrings, and I recently found comfyearrings.com and have been really happy. Stainless steel posts and backs work really well for me.
