It’s really not how I’d like to spend my money but I’ve been lucky to not have many dumb expenses like this. I’m bummed that I can’t get it done until next Tuesday though.

You might also consider changing your coverage to a deductible that you’d actually put a claim in for. I just did this on my home owners and it is saving us quite a bit on the premium.

A higher deductible raised my premium very little, like $10 yearly. :woman_shrugging:t2:

Has anyone ever gotten iron infusions and have any advice on what you wish you knew to expect or tips or tricks to make the process more pleasant? N is starting a series of them next week and is really freaked out about it.

My SIL gets them and I am endlessly jealous. Zofran or gravol, books/phone and plan to feel like garbage for 1-2 days was her advice when it looked like I might get them

A long term patients mom got them regularly. They are a MIRACLE. I could literally see walking into the house if she’d had one done. Total difference in everything- coloration, skin elasticity, look around the eyes, etc etc.

Not to say it isn’t annoying and boring but I wish everyone with iron deficient anemia could get one done :heart:

Any prep recommended? Eat first, don’t eat? Take Vit C (to improve uptake - or is that oral iron only? Avoid certain foods? ETA: or supplements/ vitamins like calcium?

I’m not finding very much on hospital websites, etc., for patient education for what you should do. It seems the consistent advice is to not take your iron tablets the day of the infusion, and to eat a light meal the morning of your infusion. :woman_shrugging: it would seem like perhaps vitamin C wouldn’t make any difference in this case, since vitamin C versus calcium has to do with the absorption from the gut of iron, so with an IV infusion I think it would bypass that mechanism. I don’t know that for sure though.

I only had one (while pregnant) and I did not have any side effects or wish I had done any prep. May it be smooth and fast acting!!

Everlane is being bought by SHEIN, so I guess everyone can cross that off their lists!

Has anyone taken the oral anti-fungal for toenail fungus? My choice is between that and removing the toenails at this point. The doctor said most people do fine taking it but it only works 70-80% of the time. There is a very rare side effect of severe liver damage that makes it a little scary.

He had me do a blood draw to check my liver function and I picked up the prescription to start tomorrow if the blood work comes back ok. He said not to drink alcohol on it but a drink occasionally would be ok. I don’t drink so that’s not an issue. He said alcohol is really the only interaction and I don’t need to worry about anything else. When I explained to DH he thinks it’s too risky and maybe I shouldn’t take it and that I definitely shouldn’t have any mj gummies during the treatment (3 months).

Yes, I did. It’s been a number of years but it worked great and I did not have any scary side effects. And I probably still drank? I don’t remember cutting out alcohol, that’s why I say that. But I’m not a heavy drinker or anything. Probably even less then just because my kids were younger and my responsibilities greater.

I remember my doctor offering to just remove my toenail. I was like, no? That sounds awful. Please give me the pills.

I had an Rx but didn’t end up filling it because the topical finally finished the job (mine was on the bottom of my feet and kept popping up a new places). My dermatologist wrote the rx and also warned about needing to test for liver levels but said she prescribes it frequently and wasn’t concerned about me taking it.

Honestly, most meds we take have a similar rare side effect like that. If it’s not the liver, it’s something else dire. I mean, look up the side effects for aspirin. We take a lot of potentially scary meds without thinking just because they’re so familiar to us that it doesn’t cross our minds. For me, (and I am not you, so I am not telling you how you should choose) that small risk is worth not losing a toe nail. I’ve temporarily lost nails and it sucks and was a negative for my comfortable walking function. So to me, I would take it. Idk if that helps at all? Hopefully it didn’t just terrify everyone about medications in general :joy:

This is probably not the right place to ask this, since if you’re here you are probably good with money and this is not something you’ve ever thought about, but, what do you all know about bankruptcy? Can you keep your house and still declare bankruptcy somehow. What does it do to you other than ruin your credit for seven years or whatever? I’m just, exploring options for myself.

I mean, I’ve always tried to do everything the right way. But like, what the fuck does that get me? How can fucking Trump have declared bankruptcy multiple times and yet he’s the fucking president and is not suffering in any way financially? What is my motivation here to not just “do the right thing” for once, honestly? I’ve been a law-abiding, tax-paying, public service worker my whole life. And now I have debt due to job loss and my child’s other parent not doing his part, financially (well, in any way.) And I just don’t feel like doing anything the "right’ way anymore. Fuck my creditors, fuck everyone honestly. I’m over it all. But I would like to keep my house. There is a way, yes?

There are a few different types of bankruptcy but I think some of them let you keep your primary home. I’ve helped someone look into options before but they didn’t go through with it so I don’t have a lot of knowledge.
