Has anyone used a fitness smart ring? I am thinking I might like to track but don’t want to wear a watch or bracelet type item.

It doesn’t seem to say anything about how it works? Is there really some sorry of teensy a/c unit in there? I have many questions.

They’re expensive, but the oura ring is really the gold standard for sleep tracking data quality. What are you looking at specifically?

I’ve just started looking, but at least sleep and steps. I’m not actually sure what all they can track.

I think largely people like the rings for sleep, since they’re more unobtrusive, but I don’t think they’re supposed to be as robust as a full daily tracker? I could be wrong on that, but that’s the impression I’ve gotten from seeing people in weirdo quantified Self wearables communities online. I’ve never owned one though. I like the convenience of getting stuff on my Apple Watch so that I don’t pick up my phone and then get sucked in, and so I just use that for all my activity and sleep tracking.

I need to research more what they do. An Apple Watch would be the easiest, but I’ve never worn watches or bracelets.

We have a doctor who recommends fitness tracking rings wholeheartedly. We asked, but we haven’t gotten one.

Friend of mine has one for a couple years and loves it…I know sleep tracking comes up a lot, but he also uses it for heart rate and I think pulse ox monitoring given a history that says he should keep an eye on those things. Haven’t heard too many complaints from him about it, either, although he doesn’t tend to be much of a tech person so I’m not sure he’s done a lot of cross-checking as far as accuracy…guessing that would more come up if the numbers started getting out of range, and so far that hasn’t happened.

I’m a paranoid fucker and I worry about if company X or Y gets sold off and then your health data is available.

I’m less paranoid now that I’m living in the EU.

I have the same Situation with Coconut Oil, even when I am cooking. I have a really bad gut reaction to it.
Soy Bean is not as bad but I am allergic to soy in every form, so avoidance is the only cure.
Traditionally sunflower oil is used mostly in Germany, that is also in a lot of processed foods. I am also trying to avoid highly processed foods and in my kitchen Olive Oil and Rapeseed Oil are the most used fats, plus butter and Ghee for searing meat.

In general, I react on restaurant food if they’re using yeast extract. In Europe it is used as alternative to MSG. Therefor it is often in soups a sauces as part of broth/bouillon powder.

Does anyone have recommendations for podcasts/short stories about folks emigrating to get the heck out of politically dangerous situation? Bonus points if it includes info about their decision making process.

Should I get pet insurance through the Boy’s work? We have 1 five year cat with an apparently benign heart murmur and a history of antibiotic resistant skin infection (otherwise healthy) and it’s through Wishbone.

Pre-existing conditions may be excluded from coverage, so that would be something important to check out before getting the insurance.

Vet care is getting more expensive - so what do the numbers look like (how much you spend / year on vet care vs. cost of insurance factoring in what insurance will not cover)

I’m not familiar with Wishbone, but I’ve been very happy with having pet insurance for Oliver. I have Nationwide and they cover 70% of everything after a $250 deductible every year (which I easily hit in 3 months with his $$$ allergy meds.). If it’s a very low cost every month it could be worth it. I pay about $30/month, and I get at least $60/month back just in allergy meds alone

The thing I’ve noticed with having pet insurance too is I’m way less hesitant to spring for an emergency vet visit than I used to be. Since I know they will cover, I just go anytime I’m worried, because it ends up costing me like $40 after insurance reimbursement, and I have the peace of mind.

Good point, preexisting conditions are excluded and he’s already diagnosed with the murmur.

$26/month with a $250 deductible for accident and injury only (no wellness). So it would only pay off in a year when he had over $500 in non wellness costs. Seems questionable.

Does the premium increase with age? Pets typically aren’t expensive until they get older. So if you get locked in to what you consider a decent rate, it might be worth considering. It’s hard to know what they will actually cover - like you have to take kitty to the vet / ER because it’s vomited for 2 days and seems listless. ER does tests, rehydrates cat, treats an acute condition. This could cost $400-$500 if they cover it all. If they nitpick things (e.g.diagnostic tests not covered) then the value drops.

It might be worth checking with your vet’s office and their experience with this provider.

Also - batsignalling @FIFoFum in case he is up-to-date on pet insurance. I think it’s been getting better, but I don’t really know.

Definitely good to ask these questions, because I’m sure it varies by company. But my insurance would cover all of these, no nitpicking. When Oliver was injured last year and we had no idea what was wrong, they even covered some kind of off the wall diagnostic tests that I was sure they wouldn’t cover. As long as it isn’t pre-existing, and over the yearly limit, my experience has been that they just send a payment for 70% of the invoice (with the exception of a standard yearly “well” visit). Mine will even cover doggie PT!

I have been using an Oura ring for about eight months now. I like it! I got used to wearing it easily and I just charge it while I’m in the shower. It tracks my steps better than just carrying my phone (and it’s easier to leave my phone behind). It also tracks my sleep better than nothing at all  though my “sleep latency” seems to be off fairly often, presumably because it thinks I’m awake on purpose when I’m tossing and turning.

Does anyone use King Soopers’ Boost subscription for delivery?

When we first moved delivery wasn’t available to our house so I didn’t even think about it again until recently. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth paying for.
