I do notice that there is a drop in water pressure if I’m showering at the same time that the washing machine is filling, but it’s not a big deal to me. And without the tankless heater I wouldn’t have showered at the same time as the washing machine anyway, so it’s still an improvement.

Our old regular tank water heater was really kind of crappy - like I couldn’t even get a full bathtub of hot water a lot of the time, so probably anything would have been an improvement!

I mean… I’m not relaxed if someone puts the WRONG sunscreen on my kids but I do turn them white with zinc because the seed oils invented UV rays

How much are you willing to spend? We ordered the Willard Bed Frame from this local woodworker (Kyle; he’s super nice, too!) for the basement bedroom and it’s rock solid. My friend contractor helped me pick it up and he was very impressed that Kyle uses Festool branded joints for assembly, which are apparently more expensive but work extremely well. He also makes individual slats that fit into slots in the frame, which I’ve never seen before. This is an heirloom quality frame and the Claro walnut we got is stunning. We also got a matching nightstand.

I would recommend the walnut because it’s a heavier wood. Even the individual pieces were really heavy! Once you assemble the bed, it’s basically planted on the floor.

Edit: the maple is available now in king and queen and on huge sale!

I almost went with a tankless water heater, but decided on a heat pump tank-ful instead, because my goal was to be all-electric-all-the-time and the base charge for gas service here has gotten astronomical.

Tankless can be more energy efficient/cheaper to run if you have low hot water needs/a small household.

Whatever you do, do not install a tankless water heater outside, no matter how mild your climate. You will get a freak cold spell and the pipes inside the water heater will burst, at the same time that everyone else’s pipes are bursting, and it will be expensive and logistically difficult to fix. It happened when we had a big freeze a few years ago, and then people still replaced them with tankless outside units, which froze AGAIN when we had another freeze.

They do make electric tankless, idk what the current wisdom on efficiency/running cost looks like, it’s probably highly dependent on if you have other gas appliances and what your utility rates look like.

Actual weighted vest in this case, but Luna will still sometimes let me baby wear. Just not nearly as long and peacefully as I’d like :joy: the irony that I wear a vest roughly her weight and take long walks while she’s asleep at home is not lost on me.

Does anyone have a recipe/procedure that you really like for cooking potato wedges (russet) in the air fryer? I was going to do them in the skillet but it’s an an energy action day and I’m supposed to reduce my energy usage so trying to avoid the stove.

I have strawberries and will be making jam on Saturday. I bought them Tuesday, what should I do with them until I’m ready to use them? Should I clean them tonight and freeze them? Or clean them and put them back in the refrigerator? Or is it ok to leave them as they are in the cardboard containers in the refrigerator until Saturday?

In my experience berries won’t stay good between a Tuesday and a Saturday, even in the fridge. I’d clean and freeze them.

Will do! But don’t really feel like doing it tonight! Ha.

I know the feeling! Fruit management is a rough task; the berries wait for no one

If you are cleaning now, I’d do jam tonight and refrigerate then can Saturday.

Chop into ideal size, put in bowl with liquid fat (melted butter/coconut oil/olive oil/canola oil, etc) and seasoning (make sure to have some salt but you can do a Mexican flair with chili powder, cumin, paprika or an Italian flair with Italian seasoning blend, or really anything you want), toss to coat, air fry on 375 for 10 mins, shake/flip, do another 5-10 minutes depending on how done they are!

If you want extra crispy potatoes soak the wedges in cold water for 20-30 minutes before adding cooking fat and seasoning to get the starch off but this isn’t strictly necessary.

This works with basically any veg in my experience. Our favorite is taking baby carrots and doing this.

Some notes: I don’t know your air fryer so if it seems like it’s getting burnt on the outside but the inside isn’t cooked then turn the temp down. Try to not over crowd the pan if you want them crispy.

Ask me any questions if you need! I’m not great at recipes because I cook with my heart.

I have a travel question. I have points to use that can only be applied to the Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas for 4 free nights for 2. I asked my Aunt if she wants to go in October when we could buy 2 more nights for $100/ea. She said I should price it out and she would consider it.

Google flights says that round trip from Kansas City (where she lives) is between $400-$500. I could fly us with points to somewhere in Florida on Southwest. Does anyone have any insight on cheap/fun ways to get from Florida to Nassau via boat/ferry/something I haven’t thought of?

This is what I do when I’m bored, play travel agent for things I may or may not ever do. Cruising is another thing I play with. So far, no great deals there so I’m looking at this resort.

Google’s AI says there are no ferries between Florida and Nassau, but you can ferry to other islands in the Bahamas. The full text:

There is no direct ferry from Florida (like Miami or Fort Lauderdale) to Nassau, Bahamas. However, you can take a ferry to other islands in the Bahamas, like Bimini or Grand Bahama, and then fly to Nassau. Alternatively, you can travel by mailboat or domestic flight from other Bahamian islands to Nassau, according to FerryGoGo.com.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  1. Ferry to Bimini or Grand Bahama, then fly to Nassau:
  • Miami to Bimini: You can take a ferry from Miami to Bimini, which is the closest Bahamian island to Miami. The trip takes about 2 hours and tickets can cost around $100 per person.

  • Bimini to Nassau: From Bimini, you can take a short 45-minute flight to Nassau.

  1. Ferry to Freeport (Grand Bahama) and then to Nassau:

Balearia Caribbean offers a ferry from Fort Lauderdale to Freeport, Grand Bahama. The journey takes approximately 3 hours.

You can then take a ferry, such as a mailboat, or a domestic flight from Freeport to Nassau.

  1. Island Hopping via Ferry from Nassau:
  • If you are already in Nassau, you can take ferries to other islands like Spanish Wells, Harbour Island, or Paradise Island.

  • Nassau to Paradise Island: A water taxi or ferry service operates between Nassau and Paradise Island.

  • Inter-island ferries: Bahamas Ferries provides ferry services connecting Nassau to other major islands like Abaco, Eleuthera, Exuma, and more.

Key points to remember:

  • No direct ferries to Nassau: Be aware that there are no direct ferry routes from Florida to Nassau.

  • Ferry schedules and prices vary: Check the websites of ferry operators like Balearia Caribbean and Bahamas Ferries for the most up-to-date information on schedules and prices.

  • Flying is faster: While ferries are an option, flying is the quickest way to get from Bimini or Grand Bahama to Nassau.

Thank you for doing the work for me. I saw the ferry from Nassau to Paradise Island, which is where the resort is. Looking at the map of the resort I’m having second thoughts. Looks like there is nothing to do but beach and drink and eat and gamble. I do like a little beach, I like eating, and I can’t afford to gamble as much as I used to, so I’m thinking there would be a lot of empty time. Another situation where not being a social drinker is limiting my excursions.

What kind of necklace should I use for this pendant? It is plastic, the biggest concern is it will be for a very fidgety ten year old.

He had a necklace recently that was on a leather thong and it was broken within a day or two.

You have not attached a picture. Braided leather? Chunky chain?

Black nylon / polyester cord? It’s tougher than leather.

Has anyone tried a personal AC unit like the one below? Is it really worth spending $200 on compared to just a neck fan? I have a friend I want to get this as a gift for who is always so hot but I would hate to spend $200 if it’s not even effective.
