It lasts a long time. Personally, if it smells fine, I’d use it.
It’s usually ultra pasteurized and lasts a long time. If I’m putting it in something hot and it’s past it’s Best Buy day I drop a few drops in first to make sure it doesn’t curdle.
you should be able to tell by the smell. it does last longer, but 4 weeks might be pushing it, I wouldn’t pour it directly into a pan with other food in it without a smell and texture test (pour into a clear glass and check for any clumping).
Sewing help, please! How do I fix my pattern?
Last year I made a dress. I had to alter the pattern to fit my size. Something went a little wrong at the top. It gapped at the neckline, so I added some pleats. Crisis averted.
I would like to make another dress, without needing the pleats. How do I fix this? Move the shoulders inward?
@Oro @beep_boop and any other sewists
For future reference for @turtlegirl, you can freeze it for use in baking (not good for uses where texture is important). Four weeks, I would personally probably toss it out of an abundance of caution but I can see the argument for using the smell test.
I should’ve poured it out before I asked! ![]()
but thanks for answering!
What alterations did you make to the body?
Oh no!
Other than the pleats, I made it wider by 1/2 inch on the outer edge of each panel (for a total of 2 inches) and extended the bust darts along their original lines.
Cool! So basically you have 2" that you need to smoosh out of the top then. You can maybe taper the pattern pieces in, doing do equally to all seams and dividing the " between them?
Or it’s possible I’m not understanding.
@iualia has more experience!
If I understand, the neckline / shoulders ended up being too wide. I have seen shows on PBS that show how to adjust patterns to tailor to your measurements - essentially there are some places on the pattern that act as pivot points, so you should be able to keep the neckline and shoulders the same while adding some adjustments to the bust or waist, etc.
I recently saw Nancy Zieman demonstrating some of these on Sewing With Nancy, so you might find something on her website, or videos.
Gardening friends!
I want to replace these rocks with something alive. I live in Denver and that is full afternoon sun with southern exposure, so it has to be very low water AND also able to have snow piled on it. But we don’t walk on it so foot traffic is not a concern?
I’m not necessarily opposed to buffalo grass but something with flowers for bees would be more optimal.
Other factors: There is a vegetable garden on the other side and it’s very narrow, like maybe a foot or 15 inches. Any suggestions?
How deep is that rock strip (from sidewalk to fence)?
Actually wider than I thought, about 2 feet
Ooh nice, I was afraid it was like 6 inches ![]()
You might find some good possibilities here! Colorado Springs Utilities Xeriscaping - Find a Plant
I set the filter for sun, very low water use, and height of less than a foot to 1-3 ft, but I’m guessing you probably wouldn’t want more than like 2 ft in height (unless you’re confident it’s something that won’t droop over the sidewalk).
Also, whatever you plant will need * some * water to help get established initially, but the need will taper off after that.
Of these options, I would just caution against anything with thorns (obviously) or rabbitbrush (rabbitbrush is very flammable).
Visually & functionally, I’m partial to winecups, blanketflowers, Kannah Creek buckwheat, Turquoise Tails sedum, Munrow’s Globemallow, Colorado Desert Blue Star. But I will admit I haven’t personally grown all of these yet ![]()
ETA I have some potentilla (shrubby cinquefoil) and they are very resistant to low water and snow piling.
I had a weight lifting plan I really liked for learning to weight lift, and now the gym at my new jobs doesn’t have a squat rack/barbells and idk what to do if I go there. I don’t want to just do cardio because I could just run to the train home instead of running on a treadmill. They have free weight dumb bells, kettlebells and some weight lifting machines. I have decision paralysis. What workout plan/template should I follow?
Thank you, I will look into those!
Another gardening question for whomever! What is a good place to order seeds? Mostly interested in greens and herbs, maybe some snow peas.
I like Johnny’s for seeds, I have only gotten flower seeds though.
Johnny’s Selected Seeds | Supporting Farms & Gardens Since 1973
I went to a veggie gardening workshop on Saturday led by a Master Gardener - because Colorado is such a tough area to grow things, she recommended getting bioregional appropriate seeds whenever possible. For the Front Range, she suggested MASA seeds and Snake River Seeds
The Broomfield library also has a CSU Extension seed library, if you’re ever up farther north!
Botanical Interests is also based in Broomfield - they were recently bought by Epic Gardening, but they should still have at least some regional-appropriate stuff. ETA that I got some free seeds from that workshop, and they’re all Botanical Interests lol.
ETA 2: Apologies if I’m coming across as a know-it-all - I’ve been going to a ton of gardening workshops recently and am very excited ![]()
No apology please, this is exactly the kind of info that I need, and it’s enough to get started on but not too much!
ETA: Impulsively just ordered a bunch of stuff from MASA and now I might need to clear more rock beds to turn into veggie patches!
